Hargrove Engineers Constructors is Hiring a Pulp & Paper Process Engineer II Near Johns Creek, GA

What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: Generally responsible for supporting and independently performing all aspects required for complete designs of pulp and paper related process and mechanical engineering assignments. This work will be performed under general supervision.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Promoting the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process and mechanical design.
  • Assisting in establishing the design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimating, scope basis and design basis meeting applicable state, local and federal standards and codes.
  • Understanding and familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.
  • Advising the Lead Engineer of potential design or scope changes.
  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure inter-disciplinary alignment on projects.
  • Assist in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of estimate being performed on a project.
  • Assist in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the most ideal and efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.
  • Familiarity with and utilizing department standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Producing detailed general arrangement drawings to define project scope and layout project equipment.
  • Work with equipment suppliers and vendors to define required equipment for early project phases.
  • Producing detail design calculations and drawings for the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others. Efficient use of designers in the development of drawings.
  • Assist in producing project designs that are optimal and efficient with an overall emphasis on ease of construction, operability, and maintenance. The completed design should meet the specifications and expectations of the client.
  • Checking drawings, calculations, reports, and studies made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, as well as conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practices.
  • Assist in producing equipment and construction specifications.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor information and other discipline information needs for process engineering input.
  • Assist in developing engineering specifications, equipment specifications, and equipment data sheets.
  • Performing fieldwork necessary to gather process and mechanical information, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Assist in developing project bid packages enabling engineering purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of equipment, materials or services.
  • Assist with pre-bid meetings, client presentations, scope review meetings, and proposal development.
  • Participating in professional society meetings to make new business contacts and keep current with new developments in the industry.
  • Traveling as required for client presentations, project related tasks, and training opportunities.
  • Actively participates in the mentoring of less experienced process engineers.
  • Developing small work sharing packages for interoffice execution support.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is not required but will be expected after experience qualification is met.

Experience: This position requires 2 years of relevant industry experience in pulp and paper, mechanical, chemical, or process engineering.

  • Basic knowledge of relevant engineering computer programs.
  • Ability to create accurate engineering documents from the information provided in vendor equipment data and drawings.
  • Basic understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process and mechanical engineering project work and design functions.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD or Microstation (or both).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Basic knowledge in the use of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEFLO, and/or SiNet.
  • Basic knowledge in the use of process simulation software such as WinGEMS.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
