Harbor's Edge Norfolk is Hiring an Activities Coordinator Near Norfolk, VA

Description

Harbor’s Edge is a premier resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located on the harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Harbor’s Edge has a $225 million expansion underway, the River Tower, that includes an additional 24-story tower, doubling the square footage and adding 147 residential living units and 20 assisted living units. When complete, Harbor’s Edge will have 300 residential units in addition to a 33 bed (Medicare/Private Pay) Skilled Nursing unit and 80 Assisted Living/Memory Care units. The Community will employ approximately 300 employees.

The Activities Coordinator assists the Activity Manager in designing and implementing an activity program fostering the basic concepts of wellness, to maintain residents at their maximum potential level of functioning. The program shall maintain a balance of recreational activities that facilitates physical and mental stimulation, including socialization, education, fitness, creative and performing arts, and crafts.

Responsibilities

  • Executes the needs of the program as outlined by the Activities Manager
  • Develop, implement, schedule, manage and provide therapeutic recreational activities (including evening and weekend activities) for community residents
  • Complete necessary assessments required by regulations/guidelines and or policies and procedures. Maintain activity progress notes in each resident’s chart as appropriate and within the documentation guidelines set forth in policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with other staff members to schedule events and use of facilities. Schedules and posts all activity calendars on each unit and provides a calendar to all residents
  • Assists with planning, organizing, and implementing various resident committees as directed by supervisor
  • Performs necessary and required assessments to include (not limited to) Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments and activity assessments
  • Drives residents to and from activities offsite
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Attend in-service classes and staff meetings

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED desired
  • Certified Activity Professional or equivalent preferred
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible work experience in the long-term care industry or a related field
  • Skilled at activities planning and orchestration
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Able to follow spoken and written instructions
  • Valid Virginia driver's license
  • A clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Genuine desire to work with the elderly and/or disabled
  • An upbeat and engaging personality
  • A heartfelt compassion for this line of work
