Harbinger Motors is Hiring an ADAS Algorithms & Control - Intern, Summer 2024 Near Garden, CA

Job Overview

Harbinger Motors Inc. is a Los Angeles-based electric vehicle manufacturer on a mission to transform the automotive and transportation industries, bringing to market EVs developed from the ground up to address the needs of the Medium Duty vehicle industry. This broad, and to date poorly addressed, market segment includes class 4 to 7 commercial delivery vehicles, RVs and utility vehicles, among others. Leveraging a foundation of proprietary, in-house developed vehicle technologies, Harbinger's first-of-its-kind EV platform will bring enhancements in vehicle performance, durability and operator comfort. And importantly, Harbinger's vehicles will be priced for zero acquisition premium relative to traditional gas- and diesel-based competitors, removing one of the most tenacious barriers to EV adoption.

Harbinger's team, with operations in Southern California and Michigan, includes industry veterans with expertise in powertrain, battery, chassis and software development, along with leaders in advanced manufacturing, corporate development, operations and finance. Our team members come from leading innovators, both in and out of the automotive industry, including Tesla, Rivian, Canoo, Ford, Anduril, and SpaceX.

Founded in 2021, Harbinger is a venture-backed startup on a rapid growth trajectory, looking for candidates that thrive on tackling complex challenges and who share in our passion to bring clean transportation alternatives to a segment of the market starving for innovation.

As an intern working with Harbinger's ADAS team, you will gain hands-on experience in advanced driver assistance systems, including exposure to hardware technologies such as GPU/FPGA-centric hardware, proprioceptive and exteroceptive sensors, and virtual world simulation. This internship offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of the automotive industry and work on real-world projects, making it a valuable experience in the field of active safety and autonomy.

What You’ll Do:

  • Shall design and implement control algorithms for ADAS features, optimizing system performance through simulation and model-based development.
  • Shall participate in the calibration and tuning of control systems, ensuring optimal functionality of ADAS features under various driving conditions.
  • Shall contribute to the development and specification of new control strategies for ADAS technologies, playing an active role in their lifecycle from concept to deployment.
  • Shall engage in rigorous code reviews to maintain high standards of algorithm efficiency and robustness in ADAS software.
  • Shall assist in the integration of hardware and software on test platforms and vehicles, focusing on the seamless operation of control systems.
  • Shall diagnose and resolve algorithmic issues in collaboration with the engineering team, enhancing system reliability and performance through targeted improvements.

Who You Are:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a passion for automotive safety
  • Strong desire to ask questions, learn and contribute to the team
  • Previous experience with Formula Student or other similar student competitions is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink for development and testing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for attention to detail, ensuring all work is performed to a high standard and with a strong focus on quality
  • Enjoys hands-on work and practical application of skills
  • Strong programming skills in languages like C , Python, or similar

Benefits:

  • Hands-on experience working on strategic projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
  • Mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals in the ADAS field.
