Happy Trails for Kids is a non-profit organization that aims to provide stability, self-esteem and a sense of community to children in the California foster care system. Happy Trails Summer Camp is located near Idyllwild, and serves youth ages 7 and older. By offering adventurous overnight activities supplemented by year-round reunion events, Happy Trails strives to be a consistent and enriching influence on the lives of a vulnerable and overlooked segment of the youth population.

POSITION SUMMARY : The Camp Nurse functions as the primary health care manager and provides health care, including first aid, to approximately 80 campers and 30 staff per week.
Responsible for purchasing all medical supplies necessary for 2 weeks. (To be reimbursed by Happy Trails).

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide 24-hour on site coverage during assigned camp sessions
• Maintain equipment, supplies and health center to provide a suitable environment for the administration of health care for campers and staff
• Review health history and monitor health screening for arriving campers and staff
• Provide first aid to campers and staff for minor injuries and illnesses
• Prepare and distribute daily prescription and non-prescription medication
• Maintain accurate health logs and accident/incident reports
• Communicate health needs of campers to appropriate staff and administration
• Help supervise all medical emergency incidents at camp
• Communicate with caregivers about camper health issues when necessary
• Organize and complete accurate inventory of all supplies at end of each camp session.
• Enforce policies and procedures to ensure well being, health and safety for all campers
• Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings, as required
• Prepare summary of the camp session including health logs/incident notes and supply inventory

QUALIFICATIONS:

• RN, LVN, EMT or Nurse Practitioner; Licensed in California with minimum 2 years of nursing and/or related experience
• Expertise in advanced first aid and an understanding of health needs for children
• Current CPR/First Aid certification required
• Experience in pediatric, school or camp care required
• Must complete criminal records background check (paid by Happy Trails)
• Flexibility, team work and strong organizational skills are essential
• Commitment to be a positive role model for campers and staff
• Ability to work well in close proximity with others

SCHEDULE:

• Camp Session 1: Sunday, June 19 – Friday, June 24, 2016
• Camp Session 2: Sunday, June 26 – Friday, July 1, 2016
