Our Jr. Teacher Program allows Teen Leaders to participate in both the Teen Leader Program (at no cost) and gain real-world work experience as a paid Jr. Teacher; at least one day per week (more hours/days may be available). Please note that we do not guarantee more than 8 hours per week as a paid Jr. Teacher.

Jr. Teachers will have similar responsibilities as a Camp Teacher; however, they will enter into a mentorship with our Program Directors, and work under the supervision of our experienced teachers and Camp Director, Marina Hamack. When you are not working as a Jr. Teacher, you will resume your Teen Leader hours and responsibilities.

Be sure to complete a CDE B1-1 Work Permit

Minimum Requirements

• Completed 11th Grade by the start of Summer Camp
• In good academic standing
• Previous experience as a Teen Leader with Camp Happy Hall
• Can attain a work permit

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following activities under the direction of the Camp Director:

• Assist in planning, preparing, and implementing age-appropriate activities for children ages 5-12
• Supervise children in both indoor and outdoor activities. Always know the number of children in your care and position ones-self to be able to see all children while remaining engaged.
• Frequently interact with children showing interest and respect
• Encourage children to communicate and involve themselves in conversation and activity.
• Recognize and encourage positive social behaviors among children such as cooperation, sharing, talking to solve problems, and concern for others. Address behavioral issues in a positive manner
• Supervise all activities to ensure compliance with Happy Hall’s Safety Policy
• Assist the Director in maintaining and documenting all records in accordance with program policy.
• Report to the Director any problems which may occur with the children in a timely manner
• Help with the preparation and service of snacks
• Help with general housekeeping tasks
• Help maintain a safe, healthy, clean, and organized center
• Maintain a professional and appropriate relationship with children, parents, and staff
• Welcome new students and parents, answer questions about school policy, curriculum, or daily programs, or provide other assistance as appropriate.
