Hanover School District is Hiring a School Counselor (For 2024-25 School Year) Near Colorado, CO

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION

Provide a comprehensive counseling and guidance program for students; consults and collaborates with teachers, parents, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students; and provides support to other educational programs in an effort to increase student achievement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Implement the secondary counseling and guidance curriculum
  • Reduce dropout rate by 2% (08-09), 3% (09-10), and 5% (10-11)
  • Guide and counsel groups and individual students through the development of educational and career plans
  • Implement best practices to decrease dropout rate
  • Consult with small groups and individual students
  • Develop partnership with business, industry, and higher education
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of students
  • Dedication to improve postsecondary education options
  • Refer students with problems and their parents to appropriate specialists, special programs, or outside agencies
  • Plan, evaluate, and revise the counseling and guidance program
  • Pursue professional growth
  • Collecting and analyzing data to plan, implement, and evaluate the program and services

OTHER DUTIES

  • Performs related work as assigned

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the American School Counselor Association Guidance and Counseling Guidelines
  • Knowledge of the general organization and functions of a public school system
  • Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict with students, parents, and community groups
  • Good organization and communication skills
  • Demonstrates accomplishments in keeping professionally current

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree Required

  • Reports to School Principal

  • The work is performed in schools

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing.

Pay: $43,228.00 - $55,068.00 per year
