Job Title: Medical Assistant
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
General Summary of Duties: Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clinical, environmental and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services. Conveys a positive image of clinic.
Supervision Received: Reports to Physician and/or Office Manager
Full-Time
Hours of Work: Employee normally works 40 hours per week. Employee normally works 4-6 days per week (as needed)
Position Responsibilities:
1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, venipuncture, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurse practitioner with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information. Assisting with prescription refills and assisting with prior authorization and referral for services ordered and prescription fills and refills.
3, Basic knowledge of Quality Assurance and Category II reporting which includes Health Maintenance Alerts
3. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining and communicating lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying patient demographics; managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
4. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include; setting up instruments and equipment according to practice protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms. Assisting with the ordering of clinical/medical supplies and equipment as needed.
5. Fulfill organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include; respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly. Assisting with participation in pay for performance programs.
Education: High School Diploma, some college preferred. Course in Medical specialty;
Experience: Minimum of one years experience in public contact job, preferably service related. Experience or interest in healthcare
Requirements: Maintains CPR certification. Obtains appropriate certificate indicating passing grade for specific specialty;
Knowledge:
1. Knowledge of health care field in family medicine
2. Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to family medicine
3. Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families
Physical/Mental Demands:
Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics/techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
