JOB SUMMARY:

Lead group work activities in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner. This position may handle Company Propriety and DoD confidential information. This position is occasionally supervised. This position supervises other employees; such as Insulators and helpers. Insulator with approximately 5 years of experience apply insulating material to exposed surfaces of structures such as air ducts, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, and cold storage rooms.

Essential Functions:

1. Cover boilers, pipes, tanks, and refrigeration units with insulation materials to reduce loss or absorption of heat, prevent moisture condensation and to deaden sound; wire prefabricated covering around steam and hot water piping, using had tools.
2. Trowels mastic or brushes cement on cloth to obtain smooth finish and covers piping with cloth.
3. Fits thermo-block and magnesia-block insulation around boilers, evaporators, and turbines.
4. Wires insulation on machinery and staples wire netting over insulation.
5. Trowels cement on wire netting to protect insulation material.
6. Wires cork on salt water, refrigeration, and air conditioning piping and cements cloth over insulating material to obtain smooth finish.
7. Cuts sheets of insulation into sections, using handsaw and miter box; fits and cements sections around fittings.
8. Covers gas piping of refrigeration or air conditioning with molded plastic.
9. Fabricates detachable insulation for valves or similar fitting by measuring connection, preparing patterns, cutting cloth, stuffing cloth with plastic pipe covering, and sewing cover together on power sewing machine.
10. Wires detachable covers on valves or fittings, using hand tools.
11. Installs fiberglass or spun glass over ventilating system to deaden sound and prevent vibration.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
