Hampton County is seeking a part-time 911 Emergency Dispatcher. This position has the potential to become full-time. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to receiving and dispatching emergency calls (law enforcement, fire, and medical) for the entire county, maintaining accurate and timely communications records using a computer aided dispatch system, and providing pre-arrival instructions on EMS calls, operating county-wide computer mapping system, operating SLED/NCIC computer, and providing 24 hour dispatch support for Department of Social Services, Department of Juvenile Justice, American Red Cross, Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Commission, Animal Control, Public Works, Highway Patrol, and various other agencies.
A high school diploma or the equivalent is required. Basic keyboarding skills are required with a minimum of 35 wpm (words per minute) typing speed. Applicants must have experience in use of Microsoft Windows. Five to eleven months dispatch experience is desired but not required. Applicants must have a clear criminal history. Background checks will be performed through SLED. A pre-employment drug screening will be done on all potential applicants.
