Hammer & Steel®, the leading distributor of drilling and pile driving equipment in the United States, enjoying 35 years of YoY outstanding growth and profitability, seeks a dynamic and career-oriented individual for the role of Senior Corporate Accountant to be based at its corporate office in St. Louis, Missouri.

Hammer & Steel® operates five regional branch facilities located in New Jersey, Florida, Texas, Missouri and California, each with an assigned sales and support team, factory-trained service technicians, parts operation as well as multi-acre equipment and piling product yards. 

The Senior Corporate Accountant will play an integral role in supporting enterprise-wide accounting and financial reporting activities. 

Requirements

Financial & Management Reporting 

• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Prepare monthly and ad-hoc management reports including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to help monitor and guide the business. 

Financial Analysis 

• Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial transactions and reconciliations.
• Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, highlight areas of concern or untapped opportunities, and provide insights to senior management.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual financial and capital budgets.

Audit, Tax & Compliance 

• Serve as point of contact with external CPA firm during external audits and with their preparation of federal and state income tax filings.
• Prepare year-end reconciliations, journal entries, and audit workpapers and assist auditors with walkthroughs, questions, and testing as required. 
• Oversee the preparation by outside consultants, the annual compliance testing for the company’s 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.
• Oversee the preparation and submission of sales tax returns as well as ensure compliance with sales and use tax regs. 

Critical Experiences / Skills Needed for the Role 

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting 
• CPA certification highly desired by not required
• One (1) to three (3) years of accounting experience within public accounting or a corporate accounting department. 
• Advance Microsoft Excel skills required. 
• Solid background with computerized accounting systems, experience with Dynamics GP preferred but not required.
