HAMILTON-WENHAM REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is Hiring a 1.0 FTE Grades 6-12 Library Media Specialist Near Hamilton, MA

The Library Media Specialist will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the middle/high school Library Media Center. This individual will work directly with the 6-12 Technology Integration Specialist to support the teachers and students of Miles River Middle School and Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School and the overall vision for the Library Media Center. Candidates must have a strong background in research and technology in order to assist students with the development of research skills and the use of research databases. Furthermore, the Library Media Specialist will maintain and promote a collection of high interest and relevant fiction and nonfiction that supports curriculum and engages students grades 6-12.
Responsibilities include: Develop and implement a mission statement, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that reflect the mission, goals, and objectives of the school.Create a welcoming student-centered, flexible library space that supports a variety of learning and social activities.Work with classroom teachers to promote the library as a space that supports project based learning and interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Promote and highlight activity in the library through the web page and relevant social media accounts.Cull outdated and irrelevant titles and build a collection of high interest fiction and nonfiction titles.Support, teach and model digital citizenship initiatives to promote the ethical use of library resources.Review, maintain and promote use of the digital databases and conduct research skills and database training workshops for teachers and students grades 6-12. Support digital citizenship initiatives to promote the ethical use of library resources.Host weekly and monthly library events such as: book groups, TED Talks, open mic, coffee hours, and work with faculty interested in hosting events like guest speakers or Poetry Day, to support a variety of learning opportunities in the Library Media Center.Assist the English Curriculum Leader with the Summer Reading Program.Design and implement teaching and learning activities, both individually and in collaboration with teachers and staff, that reflect the best in current research and practice.Organize materials, resources, equipment, and space to support learning.Participate on technology committees at all levels.Build and maintain expertise in a wide range of resources and technology.Model and promote effective uses of technology for learning and teaching.Participate in ongoing professional development activities.Coordinate the acquisition and circulation of library media materials.Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and others to develop and publicize policies and procedures that advocate compliance with copyright and other relevant laws.Manage budget for HS and MS library supplies and resources.Remain NEASC proficient with current NEASC library standards. Any other duties as directed by the MS or HS principals.
