Hamilton College is Hiring an Associate Director, Donor Engagement Near Clinton, NY

Working with the donor engagement team, and under the direction of the Director, Annual Giving, the Associate Director will support donor acquisition and retention efforts for the Hamilton Fund, one of the top performing college annual giving programs in the US. This is an exempt position with a pay range of $61,000 - $63,000.

The Associate Director will be responsible for supporting donor growth through various initiatives including, but not limited to:

  • Building and leading the Class Management program and all related peer-to-peer solicitation efforts, actively mobilizing alumni volunteers in solicitation on behalf of the Hamilton Fund
  • Directly managing a cohort of class committees
  • Directly managing the Give Campus Volunteer Platform
  • Coordinating and supporting key donor- and engagement-focused programs

The position includes:

  • Supporting and helping execute the donor-acquisition and retention strategy aimed at returning the Hamilton Fund to 50% alumni participation;
  • Working with the Director, Annual Giving to develop the strategy to build a robust peer-to-peer class management program for reunion and non-reunion classes;
  • Collaborating with the Hamilton Fund and Engagement, Events and Promotions teams to execute the class management program, setting the direction and cadence for other class managers on these teams;
  • Directly managing a cohort of 20 reunion and non-reunion classes;
  • Working with Give Campus and Advancement Information Systems to manage the Give Campus volunteer platform
  • Using data analytics tools to track, analyze and report on donor growth and development

Responsibilities

  • Volunteer and class management (70% of time):
    • Help build, expand, and implement the class committee volunteer program, enrolling, training and directing class committee volunteers
    • Work with Hamilton Fund and Engagement, Events and Promotions teams, and with the Alumni Council Leadership
    • Directly manage a cohort of 20 classes
    • Manage the Give Campus volunteer platform
    • Travel 4-5 times each year to recruit leadership volunteers and solicit prospects.
  • Donor solicitation (15% of time) :
    • Directly responsible for donor acquisition and retention of alumni donors in their managed classes.
    • Make solicitation calls to prospective Hamilton Fund donors. The successful candidate must be comfortable asking for money.
    • Coordinate with major and leadership gift officers on solicitation of assigned prospects in their classes.
  • Donor strategy (10% of time):
    • Working with the Director, Annual Giving, contribute to developing strategies to increase alumni participation in giving to the College.
    • Use internal and vendor tools to track and report progress.
  • Staff management and development (5% of time)
    • Contribute to the development of the team of student interns in their work as it relates to class management programs.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated direct fund-raising, political campaign or constituent management and/or sales experience, including program management, or comparable experience in a business, nonprofit or related setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated results-orientation and a strategic, problem-solving approach to challenges
  • Proven track record of effectively managing and developing relationships with volunteers
  • Ability to work with colleagues effectively
  • Experience developing and executing strategic and tactical program plans
  • Experience creating, implementing, and managing fund-raising, marketing, and/or similar sales programs
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, paying close attention to detail while meeting deadlines
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Capacity to master new software, especially the GiveCampus VMS platform and the ascend Advancement database
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a collaborative team environment

  • Ability to work well within a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Commitment to personal growth and development is highly desirable
  • Disposition to take initiative and be a self-starter
