Hamel Contracting, Inc. is Hiring a Construction Estimator Near Murrieta, CA

Hamel Contracting is seeking a full time Estimator to join our team. The Estimator is responsible for preparing and submitting accurate and competitive bids, budgets, and GMP’s for construction projects in the commercial and public sector. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to understand the scope of work, materials, labor, and equipment needed for construction projects in the public sector.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and assessments of project sites to gather accurate data for estimating purposes.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates using established estimating techniques, software, and tools, taking into consideration labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, permits, and other project-related costs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to gather accurate and up-to-date information for estimating purposes.
  • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to determine the most cost-effective and qualified vendors for the project.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive and competitive bids in accordance with established timelines and public sector requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers to provide ongoing support during the construction phase, including resolving any discrepancies or changes to the original estimate.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to public sector construction projects and incorporate them into estimating processes.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all estimating activities, including bid proposals, subcontractor bids, and other relevant information.
  • Participate in post-bid and post-project reviews to analyze estimating accuracy and identify areas for improvement.
  • All other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction project management.
  • Proven experience in construction estimating, preferably in the public sector and bid projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with public sector regulations, codes, and requirements for construction projects.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in estimating.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in project management and construction software, such as Microsoft Project, Procore, and Bluebeam.

Working Hours

  • Office hours are Monday – Friday from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. The Estimator may also be required to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate the needs of the project.

Working Conditions

  • This position operates in an office setting with visits to construction sites, which may involve exposure to hazards such as noise, dust, and heavy machinery.

Physical Requirements

  • The Estimator's job requires physical abilities such as standing, walking, and climbing stairs, as well as visual and auditory acuity. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily and if requested reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job absent undue hardship.
