This position is for the Redinger Clinic.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer the completion of a two or four year veterinary technician program at an accredited college or university with computer training or experience.
- Course concentration in animal welfare or familiarity with animal diseases and behavior preferred.
- Efficiency and expediency is required to fulfill required responsibilities.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel software is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Assist clients with check in and check out of patients.
- Ability to communicate and explain patient records to clients.
- Answer inquiries via email, phone and in person.
- Communicate with clients and assist with rechecks as needed.
- Responsible for prepping patients for surgery, observing all clinic procedures, to enforce sterility and safety of patients.
- Efficiently pre-medicate, induce and intubate any and all patients as necessary.
- General duties in the operating room during surgery, assisting with movement of patients, recovery of patients and general flow.
- Able to monitor anesthesia, with a clear idea of abnormal conditions
- Able to respond appropriately during an emergency, able to take directions form a veterinarian and/or veterinary technician. and maintain competency in CPR procedures.
- General knowledge of pet behavior and care. Ability to work with all kinds of animals in a safe and responsible manner.
- Knowledge and ability to intake and release patients, including delivering post-operative instructions in a competent and friendly manner.
- Sound judgment and ability to exercise complete discretion when dealing with confidential information.
- Knowledge of surgical instruments.
- Knowledge of spay and neutering procedures.
- The ability to work compassionately and humanely with animals that may be fractious and possibly attempt to bite or scratch.
- Quick reflexes and familiarity with animals are helpful to avoid injury.
- Knowledgeable and sympathetic to the principles, purposes and objectives of a humane organization.
- Extreme flexibility and adaptability, a strong work ethic and an ability to accommodate broad responsibilities and shifting priorities.
- Must be able to work at a fast pace with a significant amount of walking throughout the day between the various buildings as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands
Must have the ability to multi task, prioritize and handle high levels of stress. Position requires excellent organizational skills, as well as high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be dependable and have proven ability to meet deadlines. Self-starter with ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions without need of constant support.
