We are currently seeking a Digital Press Operator to join our 3rd Shift Digital Print team! As a Digital Press Operator, you’ll support Hal Leonard’s mission by ensuring customers from around the world receive the correct, quality product on time. You'll work in a clean, temperature-controlled environment, alongside knowledgeable, helpful team members.

As a Digital Press Operator, you’ll be at the core of our process to getting music materials to music makers by running the digital press machine to print files into paper to produce sheet music for our customers such as educational providers or individual musicians.

You will also be working with different departments to create our exciting end products by printing the digital files from our pre-media department then sending the printed work to our bindery department to make into the finished product, ready to be distributed to music-makers across the globe!

This is a great opportunity for someone who is keen in learning more about the world of publishing or printing environments as you’ll be actively creating our products at our Winona site. If you enjoy mastering a craft through following a step-by-step process, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing:

Operating our digital press machine to print digital files onto paper through following daily processes such as:

  • Owning your job ticket from start to end
  • Loading scheduled jobs into the press machine
  • Ensuring there is enough paper and loading more if applicable
  • Adjusting the press to the specifications of the ticket (inputting the settings to ensure the print fits the job ticket)
  • Proofing print samples to ensure our printers are creating the high quality product we want through checking color, quality and general look.
  • Calibrating our machines through following the on-screen guidance to maintain our machine’s efficiency and effectiveness
  • Cleaning the print heads, toner trays and general cleaning of the machines, working alongside our technicians and referring to our service providers for larger cleans
  • Raise key updates and concerns to a team member or supervisor to ensure each of our shift patterns can work seamlessly on from each other
  • Applying health and safety measurements at each stage of the process to ensure we are working in a safe environment and supporting the next team member to work on the machine after you
  • Monitor system operation to minimize waste

  • Team communication – maintaining clear and regular verbal communication with your team to ensure key updates are given
  • Be Conscientious – each day we print thousands of sheets of paper, using multiple different resources, bringing an awareness of what we’re using and communicating that with your team is important for a smooth process

Essential Eligibility for this Role:

  • Must be 18 or over (due to workplace safety precautions and conditions)
  • Must be able to read and understand written information (English)
  • Must understand basic level math to double-check the numbers on the system make sense against our guidelines
  • Ability to distinguish colors (due to checking the quality and output of our images and colors on print)
  • Must be comfortable with working on your feet on shift, occasional bending and lifting to support work on machines or lifting stacks of paper.

Advantageous Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience using quality assurance/controls or proofing measures
  • Experience operating different machines or knowledge of production processes
  • Experience in a printing, music or manufacturing environment
  • Having a knowledge or passion for music
  • Obtained a high school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

  • Manual Dexterity: Repeatedly required to walk, bend, reach, twist, turn and stand in one place for extended periods of time. Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk, hear, and see/distinguish color.
  • Machines or Equipment Operated: Digital presses (computer application-based system), forklift, power dollies, hand dollies, thermal binder, folder, stitcher, and paper cutter.
  • Physical Effort: Lift and/or lower items weighing up to 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the day. Load & unload paper and product to machines and stack on pallets and related over a period of 8 hours. Position is on their feet full 8-hours.

Working Conditions:

  • Standard production/digital printing environment.
  • The noise level is usually loud (from the machines/equipment).

Periodic overtime may be offered.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
