Hahn Ready Mix is Hiring a Ready Mix Driver Near Geneseo, IL

Summary:

The Ready Mix Concrete Truck Driver delivers ready mix concrete to customer job site in both commercial and residential areas. The work schedule will vary. It may be up to 6 days per week of up to 10 hour days, with overtime on both a voluntary or mandatory basis for work week as well as on Saturdays, depending upon business needs. Due to volume of work we are hiring for muliptle people in this position. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate truck in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and company regulations. 
  • Efficiently load and deliver perishable product to customer striving to provide quality and excellent customer service. 
  • Follow procedures to ensure truck is safe to operate. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of ready mix truck pursuant to DOT regulations. Inspections include checking fluid levels of engine oil, antifreeze, tire pressure, brakes and other driver operated controls for loading and unloading ready mix wash-out systems. Report maintenance as required.
  • When not performing driving duties assist with plant maintenance, clean-up, and other duties assigned by supervisor. This may include sweeping, shoveling and other basic maintenance tasks around the plant and yard.
  • Operate truck to receive load, evaluate slump and drive to job site. Safely maneuver truck on job site, attach chutes to discharge material, clean truck to minimize concrete buildup. 
  • Complete all forms, tickets and required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Keep inside and outside of truck clean.
  • Communicate with dispatch, maintenance and plant management to facilitate the flow of information required to provide outstanding customer service.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an

employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The work performed is considered moderately strenuous work. There are various postures, movements, lifting, carrying, and push/pull requirements are as follows:

  • There is approximately five hours per day of sitting. Sitting would occur when

driving to and from jobsite to plant, waiting to be loaded at plant, and lunches. There is approximately five hours per day required standing. Standing would occur while unloading concrete, cleaning truck, standing on ladder washing charging hopper and fins or adding admixtures. (Calculations above are based on a ten hour work day, which could be longer or shorter based on customer demand.)

  • The driver must be able to lift the desired weights at the frequency designated.

For example, the following items are part of the job task requirements: rubber hose, map book, delivery tickets, 1.5 lb bags of fiber mesh, empty three gallon pails at a weight of approximately 5 pounds (thirty pounds full) and the frequency demand is ten to thirty-five percent of the time. Empty five gallon pails weigh approximately seven pounds (fifty pounds full).

  • Metal chutes can weigh up to 50 pounds need to lifted frequently throughout the work day. Ninety-four pounds of Portland cement needs to be lifted on rare occasion of one to three percent frequency.
  • The push/pull demand for the ready-mix driver consists of using handles to pull oneself into and out of truck. Pulling oneself up ladder, the force will vary depending on weight and technique. The driver must push/pull the door of mixer. There is also push/pull in operating shift/clutch operation as well as operating controls at a height of 6 feet inches. The driver must regularly push/pull an average on 10 pounds of force at 6 ½ feet in height. The driver must also push/pull main chute at rear of truck with an average of 40 lbs. of push and pull force. There are also regular push/pull forces in hooking as many as four chutes and using push/pull in side to side movements for proper positioning. In addition, there are regular push/pull movements in hooking and unhooking bungee cords holding chutes, and using chute scraper to pull concrete down chutes and cleaning truck with brushes.
  • The ready mix driver has sudden and frequent body positioning requirements occurring while performing various work activities. Neck flexion and neck rotation are frequent in order to add ingredients, read map book, hooking chutes, observation while driving, operations of lever of concrete flow, and reversing truck on jobsites. There is neck-bending that happens occasionally when observing concrete flow and cleaning truck. Trunk bending is a frequent physical demand for driving, filling water tank, adding additional ingredients, fastening chutes and cleaning underside of truck. There is frequent twisting in the observation of work. There is occasional squatting on low level cleaning and position third chute at times. Climbing of an eight rung ladder, getting in and out of the trick, climbing onto truck while filling water tank is a frequent physical demand of a ready-mix driver. There is a continuous reaching out (shoulder height) and grasping in climbing, driving, attaching and retrieving chutes, operating controls, tablet, truck status signaling system, grasping brush while cleaning, trigger nozzle n hose, and controlling flow of concrete. There is also frequent reaching up and finger manipulation in the operation of levers to control concrete, buttons to control truck, driving, squeeze trigger on hose, opening /closing ball valves, pulling ladder down, climbing, and putting chutes on.

Work Environment:

  • Work outside approximately seventy percent (70%) of the time, and indoors approximately thirty percent (30%) of the time. The temperature range exposure is from -10 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit depending upon the time of year. Other weather and environmental conditions that may persist are rain, snow, sleet, wind, sun, high humidity, and often muddy or icy conditions on both roads and jobsites.
  • Subject to significant exposure with respect to chemicals such as cement, lime, ASTM type A,B,C,D,E,F chemical admixtures, and diesel fuel.
  • Subject to significant exposure to slippery and uneven surfaces such as icy and muddy conditions at jobsites and plants as well as, ladders and steps on trucks.
  • Significant exposure to moving objects such as other vehicles on highway, mixer on truck, all jobsite machinery such as cranes, and wheel loaders.
  • Subject to a moderate exposure to noise from ready-mix truck, plant, highway noise, and jobsite equipment. Hearing protection is available from the safety director.
  • Once issued, responsible for Personal Protective Equipment such as hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, work shoes, and gloves.
  • Frequently subject to elevated work activities. This occurs climbing in/out of trucks, climbing up/down ladder, working on elevated inspection platforms and cleaning platforms.
  • Subject to a moderate exposure to nuisance dusts and relatively low-toxicity materials caused from truck exhaust, dust from cement on jobsites, and other airborne dust.

Job Specifications:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED. 
  • Valid Class B CDL with airbrakes endorsement required and ability to maintain a clean driving record.
  • Ready-mix industry knowledge or related industry preferred.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-worker, supervisors, and customers at all times.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and OT.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment processes including criminal background check, DOT physical, drug screen, and Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Body Index Score (BIS) of Medium-Heavy
