Hahn Group is Hiring a Packaging Product Development Manager Near Batavia, IL

The Product Development Manager will be part of the Purchasing Department and will report to the Director of Procurement. The position is responsible for reviewing EDA Sales and Purchasing reports to assist with product line consolidation and offering sales and product information to key stakeholders. This role will also review product history to determine areas and customers that indicate areas for sales and margin improvement. He or she will work with the Director of Purchasing and vendors to target price reductions and find other solutions to gain back lost sales. This position will work with the Director of Purchasing to assist with the process of consolidating vendors by product category.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assistance with setting up inventory control requirements for key product categories.
  • Coordinates with Director of Purchasing to maintain/upgrade current product offering and to develop new products to meet emerging trends in markets served.
  • Develop growth strategy with revenue targets for current portfolio as well as rationalized product portfolio for key product categories. Manage the product review process to rationalize unprofitable products.
  • Ability to create comprehensive price recaps that account for all inbound and all other associated costs (& rebates) for a total cost analysis by category.
  • Drive product development vision, plan the short-term and long-term product roadmap, and be accountable for delivery requirements.
  • Review multiple vendor lines by product category and effectively propose opportunities to consolidate vendor base based on quality, price, and preferred vendor agreements.
  • Provide professional and timely responses to internal and external contacts.
  • Assist in negotiating freight and total cost reductions plans with suppliers.
  • Assistance with data analysis to optimize inventory turns while reducing total expenses.
  • Maintain collaborative partnership with suppliers in key product categories, purchasing team members, customer service, warehouse, logistics and sales.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory control information in ERP System.
  • Create EDA reports for inventory tracking and to return/remove obsolete items.
  • Support Sales and Customer Service by providing timely and regular report assistance and sales information needed to target new and lost business.
  • Provide specifications, applications, and substitution alternatives advice for key items.
  • Help to maintain Best Practices in ERP System & overall processes.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by Management.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience with a high-level understanding of sales, purchasing, and inventory management functions.
  • Expert knowledge of sourcing techniques and principles, such as processes, metrics/measurements, and supplier management.
  • Financial analysis experience with an understanding of cost structures and basic knowledge of cost accounting principles.
  • In depth Packaging product experience including application of products, recommendation of alternative suppliers, and technical knowledge of a wide variety of packaging products.
  • Ability to create a market gap analysis to target new business and expose potential competitive threats.
  • Remains knowledgeable of changing market trends, directions, and competitive conditions.
  • Inspire and champion effective communication and collaboration among internal and external team members.
  • P21 or comparable ERP experience preferred.
  • Experience leading projects that span cross-functional teams.
Professional Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to reduce costs by creation and implementation of inbound freight and other cost reduction strategies.
  • Excellent business acumen that is needed to understand business implications of decisions within the organization.
  • Ability to create high-level and detailed reports and present timely KPIs to management with continual plans to improve progress.
  • Ability to respond professionally and effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Strong project planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to excel in independent projects and while working in a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of vendor consolidation and category management.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced team environment while also delivering independent results and maintaining calm composure.
