SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Dean of Instruction is responsible for providing leadership and support to instructional services and programs and reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services. This position provides supervision of the Coordinator of Curriculum and Academic Systems and the Academic System Specialist. The Dean of Instruction is a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Curriculum Shared Governance Committee, Academic Council, and the Enrollment and Student Services Council. The Dean of Instruction co-chairs the Academic Standards Shared Governance Committee.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
A. The Dean of Instruction reports directly to and is responsible to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services (VPAASS).
B. The Dean of Instruction provides supervision for the Coordinator of Curriculum and Academic Systems and the Academic Systems Specialist.
C. The Dean of Instruction coordinates most closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services, Dean of Academic Innovation and Instructional Technology, Dean of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (PIE), Dean of Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education (WSCE), Dean of Student Affairs, the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the Senior Director of Information Technology, and the Academic Division Directors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A. Provides support to the academic affairs division.
B. Assigns, develops, supervises and evaluates the Coordinator of Curriculum and Academic Systems and the Academic Systems Specialist.
C. Coordinates the preparation of annual and quarterly reports required by appropriate state and federal accrediting agencies relating to instruction and continuing education, with the assistance of the Dean of PIE.
D. Facilitates articulation agreements in cooperation with appropriate Student Services staff, Academic Division Directors, and faculty.
E. Facilitates the preparation of MHEC documents regarding new and deactivated programs and major changes in course curriculum.
F. Coordinates the evaluation process for all programs guides the revision of programs as needed.
G. Provides support for and maintains records relating to the College’s advisory committee model.
H. Oversees the Prison programs inclusive of completion of the MHEC process, coordinating communication with the prions, and providing support to appropriate Division Directors and faculty.
I. Develops, maintains and leads the Credit for Prior Learning model/process in cooperation with the Dean of WSCE, Program Coordinators, Registrar, Academic Division Directors, and faculty.
J. Directs the construction of the master schedules for credit classes both off and on campus using Ad Astra and its data analytics to shape a schedule based on College priorities. Oversees class cancellations, additions, and modifications to the schedule in consultation with the Academic Directors and the VPAASS.
K. Oversees the alignment between the master class schedules and the catalog, the instructional administrative platform (Datatel), and curriculum files. Works closely with personnel in PIE in the generation of reports used for academic administration.
L. Assigns faculty to observe peers as part of the review process for Promotion and Tenure. Along with others, contributes feedback to faculty about teaching and learning as part of their annual evaluation.
M. Supports the academic Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Program, in cooperation with the Dean of PIE, including providing professional development/training for faculty.
N. Oversees updates to the College’s curriculum manual and maintenance of electronic curriculum files.
O. Prepares reports to the Board of Trustee that relate to curriculum and faculty personnel.
P. Oversees Perkins Grant reporting.
Q. Assists in planning of and participates in Honors Convocation.
R. Serves on the President's Cabinet, Academic Council, Enrollment and Student Services Council, the Curriculum Shared Governance Committee, and co-chairs the Academic Standards Shared Governance Committee.
S. Represents the VPAASS in his/her absence.
T. Serves as a College liaison with various community organizations as assigned.
U. Performs other duties as assigned.
