About the Role:

Are you a strong team player with a passion for the environment and environmental regulations? We are on the search for an Environmental Technician who will play a crucial part in our Environmental Health & Safety department, based in Ames, Iowa. You'll be responsible for diligently adhering to protocols for managing hazardous and nonhazardous waste, overseeing the testing, treatment, and discharge of process water to the City of Ames water treatment plant, and excelling in handling chemical spill cleanups. Your ability to step in with a sense of urgency to help production with operational needs will be highly valued. The successful candidate will have a background in Environmental Regulations, is familiar with the metric system, and has any previous experience using various types of hand tools, pumps, or other laboratory instrumentation!

In this role, a typical day will look like:

  • Collect, consolidate, handle, and ship hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal wastes in accordance with Hach’s Hazardous Waste Management Program. This also includes routine periodic onsite inspections of approved or pending hazardous Waste vendors.
  • Follow established program to comply with Hach’s pretreatment agreement with the City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Department. This would include daily analysis of process water, approved treatment of process water, and discharge of process water.
  • Assist the plant Environmental Health & Safety team with tasks and other duties as assigned

Are you qualified?

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, at least two courses in college level chemistry; or 3 years’ experience working in hazardous waste management and/or lab experience ideal
  • Associates degree in Environmental, Safety and Health or Certified Environmental Safety Health Tech highly desired
  • Valid Driver License required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
