Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna, Inc. is Hiring a Field Coordinator Near Bel Air, MD

We are looking for the right person to fit in a mission-based nonprofit that provides home repairs for low-income homeowners living in substandard conditions. We also provide disability modifications and access ramps for seniors and those with disabilities. We offer great benefits and rewarding work in a flexible, people-friendly environment. The Repair Program Field Coordinator oversees critical home repairs for low-income homeowners. The Repair Program Field Coordinator will assist with home inspections, work scope creation, and execution of work. The Repair Program Field Coordinator works with the Repair Program Manager to facilitate and oversee the activities of subcontractors and skilled laborers including plumbers, electricians, HVAC, and other licensed trades professionals, as well as local officials and inspectors if necessary.

Work schedule is anticipated to be seven hours per day for four days per week, but is flexible according to the job's appointment scheduling needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee on-site construction through the completion of each assigned project including rehabilitation, repair, aging-in-place, and weatherization.
  • Perform home assessments.
  • Prioritize home repair needs and work with Repair Program Manager to determine available resources and funding.
  • Create and complete Homeowner Agreements and Certificates of Completion.
  • Contribute to the selection of subcontractors, development of scopes of work, and creation of construction schedules.
  • Schedule and supervise contractors.
  • Coordinate with contractors to pass inspections and conduct homeowner walk-throughs as needed.
  • Follow up with clients after work is completed to ensure satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate records and invoices to provide to Repair Program Manager for submission.
  • Ensure program compliance with regulations of each funding source with Repair Program Manager.
  • Maintain accurate statistical records regarding home visits and agreements.
  • Assist in developing relationships with community organizations and associations, churches, government, seniors, veterans, businesses, hospitals and other non-profits.
  • Partner in community events: neighborhood clean-ups, educational outreach to improve healthy and efficient housing, community fairs, etc.
  • Attend and participate in Staff Meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Must have:

  • Experience working compassionately and effectively with individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, including those living in poverty.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
  • Enthusiasm, a teamwork focus, and strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated to meet goals without direct supervision.
  • Command of English language for effective oral and written communication as well as a clear telephone speaking voice.
  • Clean driving record, reliable transportation, and ability to pass a background check.
  • Good judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • An EPA or equivalent lead paint certification or obtain certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the mission of Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent (college degree preferred).
  • Three to six years of hands-on, residential construction and supervision – experience with home rehabilitation and renovation preferred.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of general home repairs, trades, energy efficiency, and accessibility modifications for the disabled.
  • Must have knowledge of standard building codes, local government jurisdiction policies and procedures, and history of conducting and passing inspections.
  • A history of working or volunteering with low-income families, seniors, and/or veterans is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office; Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience working in construction for a non-profit is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Flexible schedule
  • May work some evenings and weekends
  • Travel to worksites in Harford and Cecil Counties.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, reach, walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Average ability to lift 25 pounds, carry and move materials, tools and equipment.
  • Position requires work in and office environment, inside and outside homeowner occupied homes, and may also be exposed to outside weather conditions (rain, sun, wind, etc.).
  • Exposure to job site construction conditions (pressure treated lumber, sawdust, vibrations and equipment noise), temporary hazardous conditions (mold, VOC’s, etc.).
