ReStore Truck Driver

Job Description

Position Summary

The ReStore Truck Driver of Habitat for Humanity of Walton County (HFHWC) is responsible for performing general driver duties as described below for residential and business pickups and deliveries. Our ReStore is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9-5 PM. The Truck Driver is expected to perform all tasks safely, efficiently, and effectively, and to use polite and respectful communication with staff, volunteers and customers. The Driver will report directly to the Truck Lead.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities in Partnership with the Assistant ReStore Director

  • Assist in training new drivers and driver's assistants
  • Drive ReStore trucks; with the ability to load and unload donated items in a safe, law abiding manner
  • Prepare for daily route by reviewing Truck Safety Checklist and schedule
  • Ensure every donation meets our donation criteria, and be able to politely and respectfully decline when they do not
  • Communicate with donors when scheduled pickup arrival time changes
  • Thank donors and provide properly completed donation slips
  • Accept and document fees collected
  • Assist ReStore staff with unloading trucks or other tasks as needed
  • Report conflicts, concerns, or issues with Truck Lead
  • Monitor the maintenance of our vehicles and report any issues or problems
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of receiving dock, sales floor, break room, restroom and outdoor areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming retail environment
  • Greet and assist customers and donors in the store and receiving dock, including loading and unloading, measuring and answering questions
  • Be able to run the cash register and manage opening and closing of store
  • Work as a team with staff and volunteers
  • Manage time well, such as timely arrival for shift, reporting hours, taking appropriate breaks, and managing donation flow urgency
  • Use tools and equipment, such as a forklift, pallet jacks and dollies to move donations
  • Follow safety requirements

Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in driving trucks (Preferred)
  • Have no Type A violations in the last 5 years (which includes Driving while intoxicated and/or operating a motor vehicle during a period of suspension)
  • Out-going personality, easily able to meet and have conversations with new people of diverse backgrounds and positions of authority
  • Be friendly, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable
  • Ability to handle and defuse challenging situations with tact
  • Excellent communicator with conflict resolution skills
  • Able to speak and talk about the Habitat for Humanity mission

Required Skills and Experience

  • Drivers are required to maintain a valid Driver’s License as part of their job. In addition to meeting FL DMV regulations, drivers are prohibited from engaging in conduct that would impair their ability to perform their job functions safely.
  • Solid application of interpersonal and communications skills, internally and externally, with groups and individuals
  • Ability to travel when necessary, for training, or support of any existing or future ReStore(s)
  • The ability and willingness to call on existing and potential donors to increase merchandise in the store
  • Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets, word processing, presentations and email
  • A history of successfully adapting to rapidly changing conditions with unexpected shifts in priorities

Physical Demands/Special Work Environment Notes:

  • Ability to safely lift and position 50 pounds or more.
  • Job entails bending, kneeling and reaching, often in awkward or tiring positions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
