Senior Software Engineer, Personalization

As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in personalization at H-E-B, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and solutions to enable highly targeted and personalized customer experiences. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to leverage data-driven insights and technologies to enhance our customers' satisfaction. As a Senior Engineer in Personalization you'll: 

• Develop low latency high traffic APIs using cloud infrastructure in AWS, GCP, and/or Azure. 
• NoSQL Databases: Manage and work with NoSQL databases like OpenSearch, Elasticsearch or DynamoDB for storing and retrieving data. 
• Personalization Algorithms: Collaborate with data scientists to implement and optimize personalization algorithms, recommendations, and content delivery systems. 
• Feature Engineering and Data Pipeline Development: Develop and maintain robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data from various sources, ensuring data quality and reliability. 
• Data Modeling: Design and implement data models that support personalization efforts, including customer segmentation and profiling. 
• Cloud Infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure): Utilize cloud infrastructure services such as S3, EC2 and Lambda to build scalable and reliable data processing solutions. 
• Databricks and Apache Spark: Leverage Databricks and Apache Spark for data processing, analytics, and machine learning tasks. 
• Version Control: Use Gitlab for version control and CICD pipelines and also with software engineers in a DevOps environment. 
• Python Programming: Write and maintain Python scripts and code to automate data workflows and feature engineering pipelines. 
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Implement and manage infrastructure using Terraform to ensure better deployment processes in the cloud. 
• Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor data pipelines and systems for performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness 
• Documentation: Maintain documentation of data engineering processes, data flows, and infrastructure configurations in Confluence, Lucid, and repo READMEs. 
• Scrum/Agile: Participate in daily/weekly scrum ceremonies within the team and with other teams across the H-E-B organization. 

Who You Are: 

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field. 
• 5-7 years of proven experience as a Software Engineer or Data Engineer with a focus on personalization and data-driven decision-making. 
• Proficiency in cloud services, Databricks, Lambda, NoSQL databases, Gitlab, Spark, Python, and Terraform. 
• Experience in queues, topics, and other streaming concepts (Kafka, Kinesis, Pubsub, etc). 
• Experience in creating low latency API services in the cloud. 
• Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts. 
• Experience with implementing and optimizing personalization algorithms is a plus. 
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. 
• Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
• Detail-oriented and committed to data quality and accuracy. 
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies is a plus. 

It’s a Plus if you have: 

•  Hands-on in using version control systems such as Gitlab.com and Atlassian Bitbucket server etc. 
• Patching Oracle Exadata hardware components such as InfiniBand switches, Storage cells and Oracle Linux operating system machines. 

 We Strongly Prefer: 

• Prior work experience in maintaining Oracle databases hosted by Oracle Exadata machines. (Exadata bare metal and/or Exadata Cloud at Customer aka ExaCC). 
• Prior work experience in integrating Oracle database users with Active Directory.
