What you’ll do at HEB As part of the Foundational Technology Team – Cloud Engineering team you would play a key role in the efforts that will take our orchestration platforms to the next level. As a Senior Cloud Software Engineer, you’d be part of a skilled and motivated team, building, maintaining, and improving the orchestration platforms across our public cloud with an initial emphasis in AWS, ensuring optimum operational reliability and secure workload execution, while offering a streamlined experience to application developers. Your efforts will result in improving our custom-built platform by leveraging key cloud technologies to automate team onboarding and configuration, impacting the day-to-day work of hundreds of application developers.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers in engineering techniques, processes, and new technologies; enable others to succeed
  • Contribute to overall system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance of applications Identify, scope, and architect solutions for new features while applying sound technical judgment that considers technology alternatives, impact on affected / adjacent systems, and tradeoffs
  • Get the opportunity to stay ahead of new technologies with an eye to evaluating and potentially incorporating them into your team’s architecture
  • Apply understanding to help improve the cloud infrastructure that powers our high-performance, consumer-scale site and mobile apps
  • Lead initiatives, technical design, and delivery of complex features across multiple systems to improve user experiences
  • Recommend changes to processes and tools at the team level based on industry standards, patterns, and practices
  • Diagnose / fix highly complex technical issues independently
  • Identify and communicate cross-team dependencies
  • Communicate individual and project-level development statuses, issues, risks, and concerns to technical leadership and management; research / advise technical leadership in vendor negotiations
  • Create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards within assigned team
 Who You Are
  • You have an ownership mentality and a consistent track record of successful, high-quality results 
  • You enjoy learning new technologies as they emerge. 
  • You have a Strong knowledge of Source Code Management, DevOps and CI/CD pipeline (Gitlab, Jenkins, Artifactory)
  • Scripting capability and the ability to develop cloud environments as code.
  • Experience with core cloud platform architecture with emphasis on AWS, including areas such as: Organizations, Account Design, VPC, Subnet, segmentation strategies. 
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery approach and design experience 
  • Cloud Cost Management and Optimization experience 
  • Network connectivity, Direct Connect and VPN experience 
  • Experienced in developing Web Services with Python, JSON
  • Skilled experience in Python libraries (NumPy, Pandas dataframe)
  • Knowledgeable in public cloud automaton tooling and scripting experience – CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)
  • Familiar with Encryption, Logging, and Privacy/Security Protocols (e.g. TLS 1.2, ELK stack)
  • Good knowledge of REST/SOAP/JSON web service API implementation
  • Experienced in developing test plan, test cases, baselines, and conducting end-to-end testing.
  • Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with executives, IT Management, and developers
  • You have a comprehensive knowledge of CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and design patterns 
  • You have advanced knowledge of system architecture and design patterns
  • You have experience with common software engineering tools such as Git, JIRA, Confluence, etc. 
  • You have a high level of comfort in Lean Startup or Agile development methodologies 
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or comparable field, or equivalent self-study
  • You have 4 years of application development experience
