Job Description
The Program Coordinator will serve as the lead for employee training and professional development in the Department of Planning and Development. This position will collaborate with each division to evaluate training Priorities and coordinate or host training seminars, workshops, and other professional development activities.
Essential Duties
  • Create and manage an annual professional development plan for the Department of Planning and Development
  • Lead training and leadership development programs, including Planning & Development 101, Emerging Leaders, and the Planning and Development Mentorship Program
  • Maintain the department's procedure library
  • Identify departmental training needs and propose solutions or provide ad hoc training to meet demand
  • Lead internal orientation seminars for new Planning and Development employees and supervisors
  • Evaluate the various training methods and processes across the department and provide solutions to enhance the quality of training efforts
  • Assist Planning and Development divisions with documenting key tasks and procedures in an accessible format
  • Assist with the department's business travel program, including reviewing training/travel requests, managing employee travel requests, and providing training on the County's Business Expenditure Policy
  • Maintain the department's employee guide in an electronic format
  • Develop methods for tracking employee training milestones to ensure that professional development paths are empowering employees to be successful
  • Provide backup support for the Planning and Development Office Services team's financial and human resources tasks
Public Speaking Duties
  • Host training courses and seminars for up to 50 attendees either in-person or virtually.
Other Job Requirements/Information
  • This job is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule after an initial probationary period and individual approval.
Grade
The grade for this position is C42(1) . Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field AND
  • Four years of training experience, including two years of public speaking experience
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

The 14 departments that make up the executive side are Police Services, Fire and Emergency Services, Corrections, Communications, Support Services, Financial Services, Community Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Law, Planning and Development, Water Resources, Child Advocacy & Juvenile Services, and Transportation. Each department is run by a director who is charged with managing operations in a manner which stresses the County’s values.
In addition to the executive side of County government, certain services are provided through Constitutional officers and independent elected officials. These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law. In Gwinnett, they include the Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, District Attorney, Solicitor, Probate Court Judge, and Chief Magistrate.
