Job DescriptionThis position is responsible for supervising road staff and overseeing day to day activities associated with the enforcement of animal ordinances, public relations, and care of animals.
Essential Duties- Act as a field training officer to new road officers and complete and maintain all necessary training documents.
- Supervise staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures
- Maintain a healthy and safe working environment and make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Prepare and approve incident reports and maintain records of unit activity and logs of action taken
- Oversee and participate in the care, feeding, and disposal of animals in accordance with governing ordinances, federal and state laws
- Manage and administer basic animal care services to animals and manage the control of contagious diseases within the facility
- Issues citations and written warnings to violators
- Complete the purchasing of field related equipment
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
- Complete daily and monthly schedules for staff
- Maintain data for daily, monthly, and yearly road statistics
This position must be able to communicate current ordinances, regulations, policies, and procedures as they pertain to pet ownership, owner surrenders, and lost and found animals.
This position will be expected to provide excellent customer service and the ability to professionally navigate potentially hectic environments. This position will also supervise and cross-train staff and prepare and maintain accurate records and reports for both internal and external communications.
This position must be able to work rotating shifts, including weekend/holiday rotation, and "on-call" status.
This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.
The grade for this position is C42(1). The salary starts at $60,570 and will be dependent on qualifications.
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Veterinary Science, Animal Science, or similar field
- Four years of progressively responsible animal welfare/control, veterinary science, or animal science experience
- Two years of supervisory experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Valid driver's license
- Pre-exposure Rabies vaccine or current titer completed within 6 months of employment
- The following training/certifications are required to be completed within 6 months of employment:
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- ASP Baton Training
- Basic Chemical Capture Training
- Neglect & Cruelty Training
- Rabies Training
- Crematory Training
- Euthanasia Training
- Defensive Driving Certificate
- Pre-exposure Rabies Vaccine or current titer
Preferred Qualifications:- Three years experience in an animal-related field, preferably animal behavior and handling or shelter intake
- Customer service experience
