The GWCCA is currently seeking a Police Officer to join our public safety department. The Police Officerprovides patrol coverage to the Georgia World Congress Center Authority campus and parking areas while increasing police visibility and public contact. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to enforcing state and local laws as well as parking ordinances in and around the campus. Duties also include deterring and preventing crime, managing traffic flow, and ensuring and promoting public safety within jurisdiction. This position reports to the Police Sergeant.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• P.O.S.T. Certification in good standing
• Multi-lingual skills are preferred.
• Experience working for a multi-purpose facility servicing major exhibition, entertainment or meeting oriented events preferred.
• Must have 1 to 3 years of experience in an Emergency Operations Center type structure during major events or crisis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

• Thorough understanding of the latest police and investigative methods and procedures.
• Thorough understanding of motor vehicle codes.
• Thorough understanding of criminal law, especially apprehension, arrest, and custody.
• Thorough understanding of the rules of evidence for proper search, seizure, preservation, and presentation.
• Ability to properly collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate facts and evidence.
• Basic understanding of recent court decisions on arrest procedures and management of suspects and prisoners.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively and safely operate assigned tools, weapons, and vehicles.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports and other documents.
• High degree of integrity and work ethic.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload using own initiative.
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with limited resources.
• Detail oriented.
• Assess, analyze, and manage risk factors in the face of uncertainty.
• Ability to work an irregular work schedule as required to perform duties and responsibilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Enforces city, county, and state laws; initiates investigations into violations of those laws.
• Patrols, protects, and responds to calls for protection of life and property in the assigned jurisdiction.
• Issues citations, makes arrests, and/or warns drivers about unlawful practices.
• Directs traffic and traffic flow during emergencies or because of congestion.
• Collaborates with other law enforcement agencies and emergency services staff in emergencies.
• Operates radiological, accident investigation, riot control, and similar specialized and tactical equipment.
• Drafts, maintains, and reviews records on investigations, arrests, and all other departmental actions.
• Communicates regularly with superiors regarding departmental matters, case and investigation progress, and public relations needs.
• Complete written incident reports.
• Respond to emergency situations.
• Conduct investigations of criminal activities and taking appropriate action.
• Provide general police services to the public.
• Patrol, observe, and prevent criminal activity. Patrolling may include foot, bike, and/vehicle patrolling.
• Participate is special event activities on campus.
• Exercise crowd control and procedures.
• Traffic direction and pedestrian management.
• Completion of shift requirements as assigned by the Police Sergeant.
• Such other duties, functions, special projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Police Sergeant and Public Safety leadership group.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• High school graduate or GED.
• Successful completion of a new hire training program.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment screening and/or physical to perform tasks
• Successful graduation from state police academy or comparable law enforcement training required.
• Some college work, preferably in Criminal Justice or related discipline, highly preferred.
• Completion of a one year of special assignment with the state police required.
• Possession of valid drivers license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Must be able to pass a physical exam, drug screening, and law enforcement qualification tests.
• Law enforcement work can be very dangerous and stressful. In addition to the obvious dangers of confrontations with criminals, security officers need to be constantly alert and ready to deal appropriately with a number of threatening situations. Officers frequently work weekends, holidays, and nights. Officers are expected to work at any time their services are needed and may work long hours standing post. Officers are expected to report for duty in full uniform with the appropriate and necessary equipment needed in the performance of their duty. All positions are required to work in inclement weather conditions if necessary.
