Position Summary :

With oversight and direction from the Medical Library Supervisor, the Medical Librarian helps to meet the knowledge-based information needs of Guthrie staff, including residents and fellows, in a timely manner.

Ensures 24 / 7 access to print and online collections; provides core services (literature search, interlibrary loan / article delivery, instruction, reference, and support for scholarly communication);

and engages in outreach to various stakeholder and user groups across the Guthrie system about collections and services.

Assists in the day-to-day running of the library.

Education / Experience

Master's degree in library or information sciencefrom a program accredited by the AmericanLibrary Association.

Experience :

One year of experience working in a health sciences or hospital environment preferred. Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals is preferred.

Essential Functions :

• Help to ensure continuous access to online collections. Troubleshoot and resolve access problems with user(s), Guthrie IT, or product / vendor support.
• Facilitate timely access to articles, book chapters, books, and other documents via interlibrary loan. Process lend and borrow requests.

• Conduct timely, effective literature searches for staff to support patient care, education, and research at Guthrie. Engage in one-on-one consultations and provide individual instruction as appropriate and feasible.
• Design and deliver group instruction to residents and other clinicalstaff to improve information-seeking and critical assessment skills and to increase familiarity and facility with a variety of citation tracking, information management, and scholarly communication tools.
• Provide support for residency journal clubs and attend club meetings when possible.
• Create resource and research guides for different user groups within Guthrie to assist in effective discovery and use of information resources in support of education and research.
• Answer reference questions and inquiries about library collections and services via phone, email, Teams, and in person.
• Engage in regular outreach to Guthrie staff to ensure awareness of existing library services and collections and to promote new acquisitions, tools, services, or upgrades to the library space.
• Develop and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with Guthrie staff, departments, and programs at all levels to help identify information needs and alleviate barriers to access.
• Cultivate subject knowledge and stay abreast of trends and best practices in medical librarianship and scholarly communication through continuing education, professional development, and networking with other hospital and clinical librarians.
