This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be an experienced urgent care and emergency medicine Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) capable of functioning independently with limited diagnostic technology and no on-site specialist support.
This position will serve the Mountain Clinic in Crested Butte, Urgent Care in Gunnison and may include rotations through the Emergency Department (ED) at Gunnison Valley Hospital depending on adequate coverage of the other two sites and volumes of the ED.
The APP’s work as members of the urgent/emergent health care team; they take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays, and make diagnoses. They also treat minor injuries, by suturing, splinting, and casting. APPs record progress notes, instruct and counsel patients, and order or carry out therapy. They also prescribe some medications
This APP works closely with EMS, Ski Patrol, and Search and Rescue personnel as well as the typical ED staff. The patient population includes locals and tourists with a wide variety of logistical and social challenges. A dedication to teamwork, patience, and flexibility is an essential characteristic for any provider in this role.
Education:
Graduate of a physician assistant training program accredited by the ARC-PA. OR
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and successful passing of a national licensing examination and/or the National Commission on Certification of Family Nurse Practitioners
Licenses/CertificationThe Physician Assistant (PA) will maintain certification in good standing with the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will maintain licensure in good standing with the Colorado Board of Nursing.
Other certifications required: ACLS, PALS, BLS. ATLS will be completed within one year of hire.
Experience:
Mountain Clinic Skill Set: In addition to general medical practice, this position requires enhanced emergency skills including endotracheal intubation, chest decompression, sedation, the reduction of fractures and dislocations, splinting, IV and IO access, and x-ray interpretation
Urgent Care Skill Set: Take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays, and make diagnoses. They also treat minor injuries, by suturing, splinting, and casting. Record progress notes, instruct and counsel patients, and order or carry out therapy. They also prescribe some medications
Compensation: Nurse Practitioner - $46.80 - $62.41/hr, depending on experience.
Physician Assistant - $48.33 - 64.43/hr depending on experience.

Medical, dental, vision, health care FSA, and dependent care FSA: All active employees working 40 or more hours per pay period are eligible for benefits on the first of the month following date of hire. PRN staff are not initially eligible for benefits, and GVH follows all Affordable Health Care Act Eligibility guidelines.
