Regional General Manager, Hospice

Location: Los Angeles, California

Job Type: Full Time

Compensation: At Guaranteed, we aim to offer equitable and competitive compensation that demonstrates the value we place in our employees and our appreciation for the work they perform; the base salary range for this role is likely to fall between $180,000 - $220,000 and includes equity plus a full range of benefits that can be found here.

Summary

The General Manager, Hospice is responsible for the overall leadership, programming, clinical, strategic, and operational direction of Guaranteed Hospice and the hospice foundation in its respective state. This includes but is not limited to business operations, clinical operations including patient and family care, advocacy at local and state levels, business development and census growth, fiscal operations, community relations, compliance with corporate policies and procedures, and all state and federal regulatory standards and all other areas of general business operations and management. Each GM serves as the face of the organization to the public and is responsible for the overall success of Guaranteed Hospice in their area. They will directly lead a team of 5-7 regional leaders across the state.

Job Responsibilities

  • The GM administers the managerial and leadership functions of setting objectives, planning, staffing, and directing activities of assigned departments/areas of responsibility.

  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team in California.

  • Work closely with the Executive Medical Director and the clinical leaders (Regional DONs/DCPS and MDs) to promote optimum patient and family outcomes.

  • Ensures each agency, whether de novo or M&A, are setup and operating effectively, complying with Guaranteed’s and our accreditation agencies' standards.

  • Initiates or recommends, in collaboration with managers/supervisors, staffing standards and staff selection.

  • Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.

  • Develop goals and objectives/develops, implement policies and procedures for operations, and maintain established improving organization performance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

  • Leads budget development for the hospice division. Monitors performance and variance against budget.

  • Manage the overall financial health of the hospice agency(s) in the state - make strategic financial decisions, when necessary, that keeps our patients, staff, and the business in safe and strong positions.

  • Direct the preparation and maintenance of reports. Prepares periodic reports for appropriate executive leadership, as required.

  • Consult with and advises appropriate executive leadership of problems related to the operation of the hospice and end-of-life services; recommends changes in administrative policies to carry out objectives more effectively.

  • Develop, monitor, and evaluates program development to include financial, marketing, human resource, ethics, and community needs.

  • Leads organizational strategic planning and identifies strategic issues impacting the organization and the operating implications.

  • Serve as a coach and mentor to direct reports.

  • Provide and maintains effective communications with medical staff, the community, and all levels of supervision and staff.

  • Ensure the departments/areas comply with regulatory requirements.

  • Identify patient/client needs and develops quality programs to meet those needs.

  • Ensures delivery of quality services for inpatient/outpatients hospice programs and all customers.

  • Analyze and evaluates clinical services to improve quality of patient care and plan better use of staff time.

  • Develop and determines priorities and monitors the status of special projects on an ongoing basis.

  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

  • Participate in committee meetings (compliance, QAPI, etc.).

  • Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as a representative of the organization, and conducts/attends departmental meetings.

  • Cover the role of clinical nurse leadership, when needed and as assigned (if applicable).

  • Responsible for building programs as the hospice agency grows (telehealth, palliative care).

  • Serve on the implementation team for new hospice agency licensing and openings.

Skills and Toolset You’ll Need to Bring

  • The ability to work in a hospice startup environment and the related skills to be able to grow and organization.

  • Management experience including excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills, service excellence leadership and strategic hospice care services strategic planning.

Nice to Have

  • Current California Licensed Registered Nurse (preferred).

  • Master's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Science, Public Health, Nursing, Hospital Administration, Healthcare Administration, or specialty field.

  • Advanced administrative skills at a level generally acquired through 10 years of progressively responsible hospice administration experience, with executive-level experience in nursing operations, clinical informatics, palliative services, education or organizational development strongly preferred.

Relevant Experience

  • Has had operations experience with smaller and larger hospice organizations.

  • Experience building programs from scratch, 0-1 startup experience.
