Special Services Process Coordinator

The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1600 students ranging from PreK-12 and is a free, open enrollment public charter school. Over 92% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the US since 1919. Our roots in our community run deep.

Summary:

The Special Education Process Coordinator ensures District compliance with state and federal requirements for special education including the appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities; coordinating assigned special education program components and related activities, and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

Reports To: Director of Special Services

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a case manager for students served in outside placements and Missouri State schools for severely disabled (e.g. coordinate reevaluations, attend IEP meetings, coordinate all activities associated with the population, etc.) to carry out and achieve objectives within the area of responsibility.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of professional development with District and building staff to provide staff with continuing education.
  • Attends work on a regular and predictable basis to provide people with high-quality services and instruction.
  • Collaborates with District personnel and others (e.g. parents, staff, community, etc.) to implement and maintain services and/or programs.
  • Coordinates program components, support, needs, and material identified for students with more significant needs (e.g. MAP-A, MAP, end-of-course training, data collection, assistive devices, private schools, home schools, support services, service plans, etc.) to deliver services which conform to IDEA requirements and DESE guidelines, and ensuring compliance with state assessment guidelines.
  • Coordinates Extended School Year services and programming for students during summer months to ensure instructional services are available as defined by IEP goals.
  • Facilitates meetings and processes (e.g. transition among building programs and grade levels, etc.) to implement and maintain programs and services which provide free and appropriate public education for students meeting eligibility under IDEA.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. evaluation reports, services, plans, manifestation determinations, updating District Special Education manual, etc.) to provide up-to-date reference and comply with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Monitors and reviews Special Education documentation to ensure compliance with established legal requirements including IEPs, behavior plans, etc.
  • Presents information on a variety of topics to communicate information and/or gain feedback.
  • Researches a variety of topics to communicate information and/or recommendations and/or address a variety of program and legal requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a calm and patient demeanor with all students. 
  • Thorough understanding of policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education including IDEA, IEPs, and 504.
  • Committed to working with under-served students. 

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or job-related area. 
  • Missouri State Certification in Special Education.
  • 5 years of experience in Special Education teaching.
  • Bilingual ability, English required and Spanish preferred.
  • Experience in an urban school setting is preferred. 
  • Highly Qualified Status (this status requires the following) …
    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Appropriate certification for the course/grade level being taught.
    • Documentation of content expertise in the area being taught. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the school and classroom. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
