Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools is Hiring a Part-Time Hall Monitor Near KANSAS CITY, MO

The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1400 students ranging from PreK-12 and is a free, open enrollment public charter school. Over 92% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the US since 1919. Our roots in our community run deep.

Job Summary: 

Under general supervision, provide security and protection for students.

Reports To: Building Principal

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively with students
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
  • Ability to record information
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Essential Job Functions:

  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules related to student conduct.
  • Resolve conflict or confrontation between students and report disturbances to the principal or assistant principal.
  • Work cooperatively with administrators and office personnel to inform students of problems in the hallways.
  • Give directions or act as a guide to authorized visitors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressure.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to the assigned schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

Other Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Unless a safety issue (i.e., breaking up a fight), hall monitors should not have physical contact with students.
  • Hall monitors should avoid social contact with students. Texting, email, Facebook, etc. between staff and students should be avoided.
  • While personal relationships are very important, hall monitors should avoid after-hours interaction. If there are issues with a student, the hall monitors should refer the student to social services. The hall monitor can make the referral to an administrator if they prefer.
  • Hall monitors answer to the Director of Safety & Student Management.
  • Hall monitors will take direction from campus administrators.
  • Hall monitors will work cooperatively with SROs.
  • Hall monitors will not bring in outside food for students.

  • Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community, and visitors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressures.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situations.
  • Demonstrates respect, is courteous to peers and visitors, and assists fellow workers willingly.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bilingual ability, English and Spanish required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None

Equipment Used:

Personal computers, printers, copiers, telephones, electronic mobile devices, projectors, display monitors, and two-way radios.

The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance is expected.
