FLSA STATUS: Exempt

PAY RANGE: $52,829.00 - $88,047.00

REPORTS TO: Chief Inspector

DIVISION: Engineering

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for construction inspection and coordination of water and wastewater projects. The position requires considerable attention to detail and a thorough knowledge of planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 · Review drawings, specifications, permits, and other items related to projects.

 · Attend meetings during all phases of projects.

 · Perform daily field inspections of projects under construction.

 · Ensure compliance with contract documents, federal, state, and local regulations.

 · Witness, evaluate, verify, and track testing compliance.

 · Maintain daily reports detailing work conditions, progress, and deficiencies.

 · Review, maintain, and comply with construction schedules.

 · Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLDEGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

· Knowledge of generators, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, ground grids, pumps, motors, protective relay devices, capacity trip systems, meters, batteries, lighting systems, instrumentation, conductors, panel boards, disconnects, receptacles, and other associated equipment and devices.

· Knowledge of relevant laws, theories, rules, regulations, ordinances, codes, permits, standards, procedures, materials, methods, techniques, and safety practices.

· Perform diagnostics using schematics, multimeter, amp probe, megohmmeter, surge tester, and hand tools.

· Coordinate scheduling and switching for power outages.

· Skill in coordinating and inspecting construction projects.

· Skill in determining the quantity and quality of construction work.

· Skill in determining deviations from contract requirements.

· Ability to provide technical guidance, interpretation, and recommendations.

· Ability to train others on the job.

· This position requires well developed organizational and time management skills, and the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks and duties with minimal supervision.

· Employ sound judgment; think and communicate coherently and logically; and employ deductive and inductive reasoning. 

· Operate a calculator and perform basic mathematics.

· Perform basic differential leveling surveying.

· Operate a personal computer.

· Respond to emergencies involving GBRA facilities at any time without delay, work long hours as necessary.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS 

1. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class “C” Driver License with acceptable M.V.R., must be able to remain insurable under GBRA’s vehicle liability policy.

2. Must possess and maintain a Texas Journeyman Electrician License.

EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

Five years of related experience in water and wastewater construction. Must have a thorough knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniques.

Approximately 20 percent of work is indoors; 80 percent is outdoors and may be in inclement weather. Ability to work extended and varying hours to meet project needs. Travel varies depending upon project, but at times will involve overnight stay.

Wear personal protection equipment as outlined in the employee Safety Manual. Employees must wear protective footwear in compliance with ANSI or ASTM standard. New employees are provided protective footwear. Replacement footwear is provided annually for qualifying employees. Enter and work in confined spaces and hazardous environments, as defined by OSHA. Perform basic first aid and CPR. Climb up and down vertical ladders up to 200 feet. Be able to lift 50 pounds chest high. Must be able walk several miles in a day across rough terrain. Accurately interpret true colors.
