Overview

Makes and repairs ordinary tools, fixtures, gages, and experimental parts in the Tool Room.

Responsibilities

• Ability to set up and run CNC Equipment.
• Performs basic setting and operating of tool room equipment to machine ordinary tools, fixtures, gages, and experimental parts.
• Services machines and makes set ups on standard tool room equipment, including tool sharpening.
• Produces quality and quantity work in accordance with departmental requirements.
• Assures accurate recording of all required paperwork.
• Observes all plant and departmental safety practices and procedures.
• Cleans chips and scrap from machines as necessary.
• Performs preventive maintenance as required.
• Keeps machines lubricated, and checks coolant tanks, refilling as necessary.
• Follows required housekeeping procedures in maintaining a neat and orderly work area.
• Must be familiar with tool steels and capable of properly handling, machining, grinding and heat treating these materials.
• Must be familiar with carbide and the proper handling, grinding and brazing of these.

Qualifications

• Must be able to understand and follow instructions in English.
• Must be able to understand and interpret blueprints.
• Must have demonstrated mechanical ability.
• Prefer a minimum of one year experience as a machinist.
• Must have good knowledge of shop math.
• Must be familiar with precision gages such as micrometers, dial indicators, verniers, and sine plates.
