Job description

Qualifications:

Must have an active Director Credential, with VPK Endorsement, to be considered for this position.

Job Responsibilities:

Managing a child care center is a big job. It takes someone who loves children, understands people, and can handle the business side of child care. As a child care director, you will have a chance to inspire the passion in your teachers, have a moment of pure connection with a child or parent, embrace an unexpected challenge that evolves into an opportunity to apply your intelligence, share your compassion and character in creating a solution and every day, you'll find your business focus balanced by a unique and very real sense of fulfillment.

Objectives:

1. Keep the focus on meeting the children’s needs by giving quality child care.

2. Have goals for your child care center. Know where you are going so you will know when you get there.

3. Work with staff to help them learn to provide quality care. Give them feedback when they do things right and when they need to improve.

4. Keep up with what is happening in all areas of the center, including the kitchen.

5. Get organized. Do paperwork correctly and on time.

6. Use what you know about children, and your own common sense, to make sound management decisions.

Primary responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activities at a preschool.
  • Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.
  • Develop academic programs.
  • Monitor students and teachers for progress.
  • Train, encourage, and mentor teachers and other staff.
  • Manage career counseling.
  • Administer record keeping.
  • Supervise teachers, and other support staff.
  • Maintain rapport with parents.
  • Handle tours and marketing.
  • Prepare budgets and annual reports.
  • Work actively with teachers to maintain high curriculum standards.
  • Formulate mission statements.
  • Establish performance goals and objectives.
  • Explain or answer procedural questions.
  • Hire, train, and evaluate teachers.
  • Visit classrooms and observe teaching methods.
  • Examine learning materials.
  • Review instructional objectives and adjust accordingly.
  • Meet with other administrators, parents, and community organizations.
