Groff Landscape Design is Hiring an Operations Controller Near Arlington, VA

MISSION

The Groff Operations Controller will ensure projects are estimated accurately, tracked carefully, and measured consistently. This person will be someone who likes working with numbers and details. With constant communication and excellent organizational skills, the controller will help Groff achieve high levels of profitability while maintaining good internal and external customer service.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Estimating. Estimate all Groff projects, using LMN. This includes all designed projects and change orders.

2. Material Pricing. Update material pricing in LMN quarterly. Analyze and secure material pricing from multiple locations to make sure we are getting the best prices.

3. Receipt and Bill Management. Collect and file project installation receipts and bills in a timely and accurate manner.

4. Invoice Management. Manage and communicate all project installation client invoices.

5. Measure & Track:

a. Analytics. Track LMN job analytics weekly. Determine crew leads strengths and weaknesses. Ensure LMN job analytics are accurate.

b. Job Costing. Manage LMN job costing. Identify areas of strength and weakness for continual improvement and development.

c. Metrics. Understand the key metrics needed for Groff to be financially successful. Be accountable for your weekly and monthly scorecard numbers.

d. Time Studies. Visit jobsites for extended periods of time to perform time studies and improve our estimated labor rates.

e. Data. Use historical data to improve our ‘Investment Calculator’ ballpark estimating system.

6. Continual Improvement. Cut waste and maximize efficiency with the use of LEAN management practices. Use Groff analytics to constantly improve estimating systems.

7. Project Coordination Support. Work with the operations Manager, as needed, to support project tasks including but not limited:

a. Restroom delivery and pick up,

b. Transferring materials from the LMN proposal to material orders,

c. Coordinating and calling Miss Utility,

d. Updating the LMN calendar at the end of each day with crew location, material deliveries, equipment deliveries and subcontractor visits.

8. Communicate consistently and clearly with Rob Groff, Designers, Operations Manager, and suppliers. Attend and participate in weekly, quarterly and annual team meetings.

9. Vision. Make decisions supporting the Groff long-term vision.

REQUIRED SOFT SKILLS

DESIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

1. Experience in accounting, estimating, or supply chain management.

2. Excellent mathematical and analytical abilities.

3. Experience with installation timelines and material staging preferred.

4. Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook knowledge.

5. No project management or landscape industry experience required. Basic horticultural knowledge preferred.

6. Experience w/Dynascape or any AutoCAD based program.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND HOUR EXPECTATIONS

1. This position offers flexibility as it relates to where you perform your work. Most of this work can be performed from your home. You can also choose to work from our Arlington office as often as you like. There will be occasions that you will need to be on the jobsites to perform time studies, training and participate in meetings. We would prefer this position to offer you location flexibility, under the condition that you consistently maintain a high level of professionalism and a self-starter mentality.

2. We will invest in your training and development. There may be 1-2 times annually where you will be expected to travel for conferences or training seminars.

3. Expect on average a 50-hour work week during peak seasons but ultimately you can make your own hours if work gets completed on time, goals and numbers are reached, and extraordinary communication and continual improvement is achieved.

4. Rain days are still considered workdays for Operations.

5. Training will be given for internal systems such as LMN, QuickBooks, Dext, Bill.com, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
