Position Summary

Counselors at TMWF will provide individual and group therapy to women/teens and Play Therapy to children who have been or are living in homes with domestic violence. The Counselor reports to the Director of Clinical & Counseling Services.

The Counselor is primarily responsible for providing services to teens and adults. The Counselor is responsible for assessment and evaluation to aid and determine treatment goals, provide community referrals, crisis intervention, and short-term/long-term counseling to remedy family violence. The Counselor will work as a treatment team member in advocating for client’s needs affected by domestic violence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

In addition to the monthly data reporting and administrative duties, the Counselor will keep track of all the counseling cases assigned. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

  • Assess and enroll clients in counseling program services
  • Provide services for teens and individual and group therapy services for adults.
  • All Adult Services are recommended to be provided in person, except some require telehealth services.
  • This position includes work-from-home days and in-office days.
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records accurately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
  • Provide counseling services with the highest regard to ethical and moral codes.
  • Maintain ongoing attendance and active participation in clinical supervision meetings.
  • Provide information, referrals, and practical assistance to clients as needed.
  • Provide emotional support and crisis intervention.
  • Provide community resources, referrals, and advocacy for clients as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with a client’s collateral contacts for other advocacy and follow-up.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and HIPAA compliance and follow all applicable federal, state, legal, and licensure guidelines and criteria.
  • Conduct safety assessments, risk management & safety planning as needed
  • Flexibility and evening hours (2 evenings/week) are required.
  • Seeks professional development on an ongoing basis through attendance and active participation in annual conferences or CEUs.
  • Must maintain active malpractice insurance policy at all times during employment.
  • Aim to maintain a client caseload of between 20-24 clients per week.
  • Accurately and promptly report monthly/weekly data by agency policies.
  • Flexible, independent, and a team player.
  • Attends all regular departmental and agency meetings as assigned.
  • Comply with all agency, grant(s), and HHSC record-keeping procedures and policies.
  • Please comply with all agency & departmental protocol changes related to in-person services, office services, and COVID protocols as and when they occur.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, clinical counseling, mental health, psychology, or a related field is required.
  • Candidate should have an active LPC/LMFT/LMFT-A/LPC-A license.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience and interest in providing Play Therapy Services.
  • Weekly Supervision will be offered on-site by an LPC-S.
  • LMFT Supervision cannot be provided on-site-you must have a secured external supervisor.
  • Candidate must be able to provide telehealth and in-person therapy at our Plano office, transitional housing, and shelters.
  • Experience with individual counseling and family interventions is required.
  • Experience in and knowledge of family violence theory preferred.
  • Experience & training in Play Therapy is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to work late afternoon hours (3-8 pm at least two evenings per week)
  • Preference will be given to therapists with some weekend availability.
  • Preference will be given to bilingual therapists (esp. Spanish)
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation.
