Who We Are: Meryl’s Safe Haven is a non-profit organization that provides shelter and transitional housing to families and youth who have aged out of the care of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) who are between the ages of 18-24. As an organization we focus on holistic support by providing financial budgeting and management, identifying child care and mental health resources, education, and workforce development opportunities, while meeting the basic needs of food, safety, and shelter. Our mission is to level the field of opportunity for those who enter our doors.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer the Direct Care / Residential Counselor will work closely with families in a congregate emergency shelter site in Worcester providing and guiding families and youth to holistic support. This position also provides oversight of site operations which includes enforcing safety measures, program rules, and expectations using a family centered approach.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Supporting Families
Assist in completing screening, intakes activities and orientation of new families Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer aid families with keeping compliance with program
expectations
Oversee security and safety by making routine interior and exterior checks during shift Assists families with day-to-day life skills assistance, as needed.
Documents all critical incidents and safety issues using program communication system Ensure family daily chores are complete each night
Complete daily housekeeping duties, including room checks each night
Assist colleagues and volunteers with coordination of events and workshops
Coordinate orientation of new family members as they enter the program
Provide emergency crisis management to families
Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
Passion working with economically disadvantaged, culturally diverse, and at-risk families and youth
Excellent customer service
Organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment Proficient computer skills specifically Microsoft Suites
Crisis management
Great attention to detail
Good working knowledge of community resources for economically disadvantaged youth and families
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum two years experience working with populations with mental illness, development disabilities and/or substance abuse, and economically disadvantaged families
Preferred
Associate degree in a Human Services related field
Valid driver’s license
Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Haitian Creole, English/Portuguese) Employee Compliance Requirements
Comply with all Compliance regulations
Adhere to the components of the Compliance Program and annual training requirements
Understand that annual training is a required condition of employment Ensure job tasks are performed in a legal and ethical manner
Actively assess work area for non-compliance issues and notify supervisor
