Greenway Waste Solutions is currently seeking an Experienced Mechanic to join our team. Our Mechanics are responsible for repairs, rebuilds, and maintaining construction equipment, such as bulldozers, landfill compactors, waste material grinders, tractors, and similar equipment, operating and inspecting machines or equipment to diagnose defects, and tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

What Will I Be Doing?

  • Under direct supervision and assistance of the Lead Mechanic performs high level diagnostic, repair, and maintenance procedures on 140 pieces of Company heavy equipment, light trucks, and tractors.
  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using gauges.
  • Uses voltmeter and multi-meters to ascertain malfunction.
  • Replaces defective engines and sub-assemblies, such as transmissions.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members.
  • Maintains cleanliness of shop and work area and complies with all OSHA safety requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

Do I Have What it Takes?

  • Adheres specifically to all corporate policies and procedures as well as applicable laws.
  • Understands and upholds the Griffin Brothers Companies mission statement.
  • Adheres to all federal and state highway regulations and operates vehicles in a safe manner.
  • Performs duties in a safe and environmentally compliant manner and wears appropriate safety attire.
  • Attends company OSHA and DOT training program.
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record with DMV.

Knowledge Requirements

  • High school diploma or comparable vocational training.
  • Occupational training signified by professional certification such as ASE would be helpful.
  • Working knowledge of heavy equipment, truck mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use a variety of electronic tools, such as engine analyzers and computers.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of basic heavy equipment repair.
  • Additional years of comprehensive heavy equipment repair using diagnostic tools is preferred.

Skills Requirements

  • Ability to use basic mechanical hand tools and engine analyzers.
  • Working knowledge of parts ordering systems software.
  • Welding and ICC maintenance requirements.
  • Must be capable of repairing all types of equipment.
  • Advanced use of diagnostic equipment is preferred.

Physical Demands/Work Environment Requirements

  • Requires superior hand/eye coordination with most of the time in uneasy positions.
  • Stands 100 percent of the time on concrete floor in shop with adequate ventilation, lighting, and heated environment.
  • May be required to exert up to fifty pounds of torque force occasionally or lift heavy objects up to 100 pounds and move up to 25 feet.
  • Frequently works with dirty and greasy parts.
  • Periodically travels up to 90 miles one way to perform duties at other company landfill locations.
  • Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled.
