The Opportunity…
Reporting to the Residential and Commercial Field Manager, your primary function will be to provide leadership to the installation crews through maintaining a quality standard for all crews to follow for our clients trainings for our volunteers and job trainees to include safety standards for all.
What you need to bring to this role…
  • Responsible for all technical and safety aspects of PV installations from site safety assessment to project commissioning
  • Verification of equipment needed on each job site, including equipment pickups
  • Conduct site walk arounds to verify sites for solar access and safety issues
  • Conduct inspections of mainly residential solar electric systems
  • Read and organize permit packages, interconnection documents, and rebate paperwork for submittal
  • Capture quality and assurance photos for every installation
  • Lead installations of solar electric systems with crews of volunteers and/or job trainees
  • Ensure that all solar installations are installed according to GRID Alternatives safety and quality standards
  • Perform Operations and Maintenance troubleshooting and repair on existing client systems
  • Other job duties include small equipment purchasing and hardware store runs, equipment unloading and loading, answering homeowner and volunteer / trainee questions, talking to media and generally participating in activities necessary to make solar happen for low-income families
  • Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.
It would be great if you also had…
  • Experience in PV system installation, design, and troubleshooting
  • Experience leading a crew in PV installation
  • Excellent communication skills (ability to work with volunteers, trainees, and clients, ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively)
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Willingness to work on some evenings and weekends
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record
  • Travel throughout XXX counties
  • Comfortable working at heights and in extreme conditions
  • Flexibility and willingness to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to rapidly growing organization
  • Willingness to travel to sites throughout Central California
  • Some travel outside of this region may be required
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Passion for sustainability, affordable housing, the environment, or environmental justice, or just generally grounded in making the world a better place
  • Experience in training and/or working with volunteers or trainees
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Sketchup or AutoCAD
  • NABCEP certified
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM database
  • PV system installation experience (commercial and residential)
  • NABCEP certification
  • Construction heavy equipment experience (electric Forklift, skid steer, all terrain forklift, scissor lift, etc..)
  • General computer skills
Where you will sit & the places you may go…
This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.
GRID Alternatives provides vehicles for work travel, and due to COVID-19 current guidelines, we may also require limited personal vehicle use. In the latter instance, GRID will provide travel reimbursement for work-related personal vehicle use in accordance with our payroll schedule. Additionally, all applicants will need a valid driver's license and a good driving record to be considered.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Hourly pay commensurate with experience within the pay range of ($26 - $38 per hour) plus the benefits listed below.
