Job Description

Position Summary

The Insulator is responsible for various functions as it relates to insulation such as applying insulation to exposed surfaces of structures, cutting, and forming insulation, pipe, duct, and equipment.

Position Responsibilities - Essential

  • Apply insulating material to exposed surfaces of structures, such as air ducts, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, and cold storage rooms 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine required insulation material to be used, based on material’s heat retaining and excluding characteristics 
  • Fit, wrap, or attach required insulation material around or to structure, following blueprint specifications 
  • Cover or seal insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure 
  • Inspect completed insulation to determine structural and functional soundness 
  • Operate machine to repair insulating materials for insulation 
  • Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job (Higher levels would work under less immediate supervision) 
  • Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
  • Based on the nature of the essential functions associated with this role, GreenWood has designated this as a “safety-sensitive” position. 

Position Responsibilities - Non-Essential/Other

  • Maintain insulation equipment 
  • Conduct process inspection to ensure quality 
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Essential Skills and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent 
  • 2-5 years of experience in various forms of insulation 
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures with the insulation field (this also has levels of increased knowledge with higher levels of this position) 
  • Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency 
  • Ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality of work
  • Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive tasks with focus on quantity and quality 
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment 
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service and strong communication (both listening and speaking) and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold)
  • Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Greater than 5 years of experience in various forms of insulation
  • Completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty
  • NCCER card and/or Competent Person certification
