Description

2nd grade Learn to Swim Instructors are responsible for water instructors' operations, including but not limited to planning, coordinating, and teaching the Guilford County 2nd Grade Learn-to-Swim Program, providing excellent customer service to teachers, students and other staff. This position works closely with local second graders in the county over the course of 5 days to teach them water safety and swim skills. This job does require travel to off-site pool locations as well as hosting sessions at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. The Guilford County 2nd Grade Coordinator provides instructor training and lesson plans for this position. Instructors must be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Levels or have a strong understanding of swimming basics and techniques.

· Adapt your teaching approaches to the ages, experiences, and abilities of participants so they can meet lesson plan objectives

· Responsible for knowing the GAC Emergency Action Plan (EAP)

· Communicate with participants, as appropriate, related to progress and goals

· Preparing before class and cleaning up after classes; materials and equipment for classes. Passing out suits and towels.

· Attends, participates, in staff meetings, in-service training, and staff evaluations

· Sets a positive example for all the staff and the patrons to follow

· Enforces pool safety rules

· Communicates with management, about any needs or concerns that need to be addressed

· Ensure student assessment cards are completed and passed out at the end of each week

· Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor

· Provide leadership to new or inexperienced instructors

· Ability to teach all skill levels effectively and efficiently

· Teach a minimum of ten sessions a year

This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Holds a current/unexpired certification and has experience in the following:

· Comfortable in the water

· Ability to relate to various age groups and fitness levels

· Leadership, decision making, and public relations skills Instructor II

Preferred Qualifications:

· American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification

· One year of Aquatics teaching experience

Requirements

Work Schedule: This is a part-time roster position, averaging 20 hours per week/1,000 hrs annually.

Shifts are Monday-Friday 9:45AM-1:45PM
