THEATER FACULTY POSITION

This is a full time, benefited, tenure track position.

BARGAINING UNIT/NON-UNIT: MCCC

ANTICIPATED START DATE: August 2024

SALARY RANGE: Rank: Assistant Professor. Salary range is $52,970 - $71,369. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the MCCC collective bargaining agreement provisions and candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This full-time faculty position coordinates the Theater Liberal Arts Associate's Degree option along with coordinating the related student productions each semester. The faculty role includes teaching, advising, learning outcomes assessment, year-end reporting, and involvement in shared governance. The faculty person also maintains articulations and positive working relationships with related four-year degree transfer programs.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach first and second year Theater courses;
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development and use student learning outcomes' assessment results for program improvement;
  • Provide academic advisement for students;
  • Serve as the departmental liaison to area colleges and universities on an ongoing basis;
  • Maintain regular office hours;
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive and collaborative learning environment in and beyond the classroom;
  • Support student activities, clubs, etc. and oversee student theater production each semester;
  • Demonstrate mutual respect and support for diversity;
  • Remain current and professionally active in one's field;
  • Serve on college committees as elected or appointed as well as contribute to shared governance;
  • Participate in regularly scheduled departmental, divisional, and college meetings as well as related evening events; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the MCCC collective bargaining agreement.
Job Requirements:


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*:

  • MFA in Theater or a related field
  • Minimum two years of college teaching experience, preferably at the community college level, in a theater department
  • Experience directing, organizing, and promoting student productions
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse abilities and academic, socioeconomic, and cultural composition of community college students, faculty, and staff;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with community college-level course and program development;
  • Experience serving as a department chair in a theater or humanities department
  • Experience in developing community partnerships and programming
  • Experience with student academic advising
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college
