This is a full-time, tenure track, benefited position.

BARGAINING UNIT/NON-UNIT: MCCC

ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP

SALARY RANGE: Rank: Assistant Professor. Salary range is $62,838 - $71,150. The appointment salary is based on one's education and experience as dictated in the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.

THE ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM:

The Associate Degree Nursing program, situated within the Nursing and Sciences grouping, operates under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean of Nursing. The dedicated team consists of six full-time faculty members, supported by seven to eight clinical adjunct instructors and a full-time administrative assistant who also extends their assistance to the Practical Nursing Program. Our nursing faculty members are wholly committed to equipping students with the necessary technical, problem-solving, and applied skills to excel in today's ever-evolving healthcare landscape. Throughout all four semesters, students partake in service learning experiences, engage in high fidelity patient simulation as part of the skills curriculum, and benefit from web-based enhancements within their courses. Notably, graduates from GCC's nursing program consistently surpass national NCLEX pass rates for both ADN and BSN programs. Our student body is diverse, comprising licensed practical nurses and individuals with advanced degrees from various disciplines. To enrich student learning and skill development, we employ a multitude of technological platforms.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Provides classroom, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical instruction in the Associate Degree Nursing program, which includes Fundamentals of Nursing, Family Nursing (obstetrical nursing or pediatric nursing), and other content as assigned. Provides academic advisement for approximately 18 ADN and Nursing Intent students; maintains regular office hours; serves on committees as elected or appointed; attends regularly scheduled department, division and college meetings; and performs other duties as assigned. Collaborates with other faculty in delivery of nursing curriculum, in drafting of course delivery schedules, and in ongoing curriculum development. Contributes to accreditation, program, and course report activities.

This position has an emphasis in the coordination of the simulation and skills laboratory. The simulation/skills coordinator is responsible for the students' laboratory experience through all four semesters. This individual is responsible for the organization and day-to-day operations of the lab. This individual will teach or supervise all lab sessions, is responsible for ordering and maintaining equipment, supplies, and technological resources. This position is responsible to the course coordinators for the appropriate integration of skills and simulation content with the academic coursework.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teaches nursing courses in the appropriate content areas;
  • Directs and teaches students in college classrooms, on-campus skills and simulation lab, and clinical cooperating agencies;
  • Evaluate student achievement of outcomes in classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical settings.
  • Develops simulation experiences for students in all courses
  • Maintains equipment and ordering lab supplies with an emphasis on cost reduction
  • Provides support and guidance to part-time instructors working with assigned courses and agencies.
  • Counsels nursing students in relation to achievement of program objectives, time management, and retention strategies and documents all interactions with students;
  • Contributes to the development of nursing program policies, procedures, and nursing education opportunities
  • Assists with coordination service learning programs;
  • Identifies and supports students in clinical and academic situations, and refers students to appropriate campus resources;
  • Assists students in the development of a thorough understanding of the nurse's role in contemporary nursing practice;
  • Demonstrates professional role modeling for nursing students and encourages them to pursue higher levels of nursing education;
  • Organizes, develops and evaluates the nursing curriculum;
  • Develops specific criteria and related methods for the evaluation of student achievement of program and course objectives;
  • Contributes to a positive, respectful, and collaborative learning and work environment;
  • Contributes to program, assessment activities including accreditation, the systematic evaluation plan, and year-end reporting;
  • Participates in team and program meetings and college-wide meetings;
  • Maintains records and reports in accordance with established program policies;
  • Maintains scheduled office hours in accordance with college policy;
  • Participates in ongoing professional study and education;
  • Maintains current professional liability insurance; and
  • Maintains current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (and Vermont as indicated).
  • Maintains all mandatory health requirements
Job Requirements:


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*:

  • Eligibility for RN licensure in Massachusetts (and/or Vermont as needed);
  • Possess an earned Master of Science Degree in Nursing;
  • Minimum of two (2) years full-time clinical experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last (5) five years and evidence of clinical competence;
  • Current American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification;
  • Instructional experience in the college or clinical setting;
  • Completes required immunizations, titers, screenings, and site-specific education to maintain compliance with specific clinical site standards;
  • Current malpractice insurance or able to obtain.
  • Ability to utilize technology in student learning situations equivalent to student expectations in clinical settings; and
  • Record of performance that demonstrates respect for diversity, equity and inclusion.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND APTITUDES:

  • Proficiency in oral and written communication, including basic computer skills.
  • Competency with and application of nursing-specific technology and platforms to enhance student learning

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated successful community college teaching experience, preferably classroom teaching experience;
  • Experience with curriculum and course design and evaluation of program outcomes;
  • Community nursing experience and knowledge of holistic health practices; nursing experience in various practice settings across the wellness-illness continuum; or with diverse populations
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting cultural competency and diversity within the curriculum and the profession;
  • Knowledge of or experience with high fidelity patient simulation and other modes of technology; experience with various simulation education, theory and methods.
  • Ph. D. in nursing, nursing education, DNP or related field.
  • Specialty Certification in Medical Surgical, Pediatric, Obstetrical, Psychiatric, Public Health, or Intensive Care Nursing; or Nursing Education;
  • Certificate in Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE)
