Job Summary

The Internal Auditor is responsible for performing audits to assess the organization’s operational and financial performance, including efficient and cost-effective operations, compliance with organization and government agency (state and Federal) policies and procedures, assessment of the organization’s internal controls, and provide recommendations of such to the Board of Directors and management. The incumbent must demonstrate ability to be self-directed, with minimal direct supervision. in the development of audit plans, analysis and testing of financial and operational records and reporting the results to management. This position can involve sensitive information (patient, employee, and organization) and deal with this information objectively and discretely.

Responsibilities and Duties

Prepares risk assessments and develop effective audit programs.

Reviews and analyzes accounts, records, internal controls, and fiscal procedures.

Performs tests of accounting records to verify accuracy, completeness, and propriety

Identifies, gathers, reviews, and analyzes physical or documentary data on management and business policies, practices, procedures, and organizational structure; makes recommendations regarding industry best practices to improve performance efficiency and/or effectiveness.

Performs audits of grant management to ensure proper accounting and use of funds for the grant’s stated purpose.

Performs quarterly audits of the 340B program and compliance with program rules and regulations.

Advises senior management team on basis of audit findings, concerning proper record keeping, reporting, and compliance with Federal and State regulations and compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures.

Reviews organization, staffing, cost effectiveness, program effectiveness and efficiency; analyzes and develops solutions to administrative and technical problems disclosed through internal or external review.

Makes oral and written presentations to management and the Board of Directors during and at the conclusion of the audit discussing deficiencies, recommending corrective action, and suggesting improvements in operations and reductions in costs.

Prepares formal reports, expressing opinions on the adequacy and effectiveness of the system and the efficiency with which activities are carried out.

Appraises the adequacy of recommended corrective actions taken to improve deficient conditions.

Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field. Two (2) or more years of auditing experience, preferably in a health care environment.

Current knowledge of auditing standards and procedures, including government auditing standards.

Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information.

Proficiency with MS Office and ability to learn new programs and applications, including data analysis applications, electronic health record and practice management systems.

Advanced analytical skills to identify variance, draw conclusions and develop plan of correction.

Ability to research laws and regulations and determine compliance.

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and effectively present data.
