Certifications & Licenses:

  • current licensure or certification as appropriate for the position, including without limitation: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); or Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC); or other qualified professional licensure

Job Description

This position is responsible for providing mental health counseling, group, and family treatment as determined by a referral from the school based mental health intervention team led by the Director of Mental Health and Behavior Services 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Counsel individuals and small groups to help them understand and overcome personal, social, emotional, or behavioral problems affecting their educational environment.
  • Facilitate tiered interventions in collaboration with Student Intervention Team focus areas and students.
  • Provide targeted mental health educational programs and support to at-risk groups.
  • Serve as an active, results-driven, solution-focused member of the Student Intervention Teams.
  • Provide crisis intervention and/or assessment to students when difficult situations occur at schools.
  • Participate in and assist with the school’s Social and Emotional Learning Program.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Report cases of suspected domestic abuse or other family problems including, but not limited to, reporting to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
  • Assess student and family needs.
  • Counsel students regarding educational and mental health related issues such as school adjustment, anxiety, depression, anger management, grief, life stressors, truancy, behavior, and study habits.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of school programs.
  • Observe students during classroom and play activities to evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Attend meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops as well as serve on committee as deemed appropriate by district leadership.
  • Address community groups, faculty, and staff members to explain available counseling services.
  • Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, and academic contests.
  • Provide training/professional development for staff on mental health-related topics.
  • Participate in building committees to meet the individual needs of students such as conducting FBA’s and developing behavior plans or academic intervention plans.
  • Coordinate student services and referrals with outside agencies when needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of mental health counseling theory and techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Evaluate students' or individuals' abilities, interests, and personality characteristics using tests, records, interviews, or professional sources.
  • Assist in establishing goals for the mental health program according to the setting and the students served.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal regulations and of resources both within and beyond the school and district.
  • Promote the mental health program into school-wide programs.
  • Establish standards of conduct and contribute to the culture for student behavior throughout the district.
  • Assist students and teachers in the formulation of academic and/or personal/social plans based on knowledge of students.
  • Arrange resources to meet needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Reflect on practice and participate in professional development activities to enhance professional learning.
  • Communicate with families.
  • Maintain professionalism with all staff members.
  • Adhere to all policies of the District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Mental Health & Behavior Services.
