Summary

The Weld Engineering Manager oversees the facility weld engineering programs, on-the-job weld training, and troubleshooting of weld equipment. This position ensures that department employees are properly trained and qualified and that the departments functional requirements are met in a timely fashion.

Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Manages the plant’s weld engineering programs.
  • Ensures that department employees receive necessary training for the proper performance of their jobs and that they possess or acquire the necessary technical qualifications.
  • Ensures that the weld training program for new hires operates efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensures the Weld Engineering Department has required oversight of weld processes in the plant
  • Ensures that the Weld Technicians provide weld coverage in the plant.
  • Ensures that Weld Technicians keep weld machines maintained in proper working order.
  • Assesses workforce requirements and advises human resources department staff of current and future needs.

Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years experience in Weld Engineering
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex issues, including quickly assessing options and implementing solutions.
  • Ability to recognize and mitigate risk
  • Ability to understand the mechanical basics of AC and DC machinery, mechanics of materials, and structural or machine design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or equivalent and
  • Ability to teach and implement Lean, and Lean principles and tools
  • Knowledge of NDT, Inspection, and Quality systems
  • 3-5 years Management/Supervisory experience in manufacturing environment
