Summary:

Greenacres Foundation is seeking a Livestock Field Coordinator who is passionate about our mission at Greenacres and models our values for the Livestock team. The Livestock Field Coordinator needs a commitment to regenerative agriculture, grass-based production systems and a curious mind and appreciation for research. This position will have two main responsibilities—assisting the Livestock team in daily farming operations and performing field work to implement research projects. The Livestock Field Coordinator will work with Greenacres’ Agriculture Director and Agriculture Research Specialist to implement short and long-term research projects in areas including but not limited to financial performance, carcass improvement, pasture improvement, multi-species management and all other aspects of a grazing operation.

The Livestock Field Coordinator will work primarily with the Livestock team with a significant portion of their time dedicated to project management and implementation of research projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and assist pasture management to promote rotational grazing and maximize herd potential.
  • Manage and assist with daily farm tasks as required.
  • Monitor wellbeing of all livestock and performs any necessary husbandry tasks.
  • Day to day management of livestock and pastures as part of research projects.
  • Traveling to field sites for management of off-site research projects.
  • Assists Research Team with the planning and direction of specific phases of research projects.
  • Regular project communication.
  • Attend project related meetings.
  • Safe operations of field equipment, machinery and technology as specified by study and farm protocols.
  • Field equipment installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of monitoring equipment.
  • Present research results and livestock updates at field day events and conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in agricultural field or three years relevant experience.
  • Experience with artificial insemination, embryo transfer, calving, cattle handling, and administration of medications, sheep management, poultry management, and forage management preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of and implementation of low stress and humane livestock management.
  • Experience operating machinery including tractors, planting and spraying equipment.
  • Willingness to work with current Ag Tech (ex. drones, field sensors, virtual fencing collars).
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically to plan and implement research projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation and persistency.
  • Ability to work with flexible schedules and requirements and work both independently and in a team setting. 
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to internalize and reflect our values of Grace, Good Neighbor Policy and Green to assure QQQ.
  • Ability to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test and fingerprint FBI background screen.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen, BCI/FBI background check and physical as required.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs and move equipment and materials commensurate with the position.
