Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education and/or content area of concentration.
TEFL/TESOL/ESL certification or equivalent with appropriate licensure and endorsement from Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
Three years of successful teaching experience with English Language Learners PREFERRED.
General Summary: The English Language Learner Teacher (Virtual) shall design and deliver direct English language development instruction to K-12 ELs in multiple districts, based on district need. Delivery of instruction will be virtual, based on demand for services and the needs of students to be served.
Essential Functions &
Responsibilities:
Design and present educational material in an online format, both synchronous & asynchronous delivery, with a possibility of some in-person instruction (to be discussed in advance with supervisor)
Prepare lesson plans in accordance with students' learning needs
Tailor lessons to accommodate differences in learning style and speed
Evaluate student progress and communicate with stakeholders (classroom teachers, administrators, parents…)
Support required LIEP parent communication (required forms, parent notification)
Coordinate with district staff responsible for completing language proficiency state assessments.
Be knowledgeable and respectful of cultural differences, as well as support districts and classroom teachers in cultural understandings.
Develop an EL plan for each student
Assist students with their technical difficulties or connect the student with appropriate tech supports
Communicate regularly with parents, students, and certified content area teachers through use of computer and telephone
Collaborate with school leaders to determine appropriate placement and scheduling.
Work with school leaders and counselors to ensure students and families are receiving appropriate communications, students are making adequate progress and established goals are being met
Consult with other teachers and staff learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities, modifications to students’ programs to increase student understanding, and determining appropriate accommodations for assessments (such as ELPA21, ISASP, and as documented in IEPs)
Flexibility to adjust to changing schedules, student needs, demands for services
Develop a general knowledge of the school program’s K-12 curriculum
Collaborate with school staff and Green Hills AEA English Language Consultants
Collaborate with the Director to build, adjust, and maintain a flexible schedule based on multiple district’s requests and student’s needs.
Attend local and state provided professional development trainings, as directed
Create on-demand professional learning on relevant topics for school and Agency staff, as directed
Organize and facilitate family engagement activities that can be implemented by districts agency-wide
Demonstrates cultural competence and behaviors consistent with the core values, vision and mission of Green Hills AEA in personal interactions and all job related activities.
Complies with state and federal rules and regulations and AEA policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of LEA student and teacher information.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Work is primarily performed in a virtual setting. The ability to work in schools may be necessary, and it will be discussed between employee and supervisor if that need arises.
Requires good eye/hand/finger coordination to keyboard and to operate office machines. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Good concentration and visual skills required. Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that can’t always be anticipated.
