Green Hedges School is Hiring a lead summer counselor Near Vienna, VA

Green Hedges School seeks an experienced Lead Summer Counselor for the 2024 Summer Camp
season. Green Hedges School Summer Camp is for campers in Preschool ages 3- through rising
Grade 2. Green Hedges is located in Vienna, VA, fourteen miles west of Washington, DC.

Join our team as a camp counselor for an exciting summer opportunity! We are seeking enthusiastic
individuals to work from June 17 to August 2, with June 19 and July 4 as holidays. Preference will be
given to counselors who can commit to all seven weeks, although partial week availability is also
considered. The working hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., with the possibility of extra hours
available through Extended Day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Competitive hourly rates are offered,

A successful candidate Summer Camp Counselor will have the following education and
experience requirements:

  • AMS or Undergraduate degree (master's preferred) in education or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years experience in a lead position
  • Knowledge of the academic and social-emotional development of preschool ages 3 and 7
  • A high level of energy and strong, positive presence, initiative, and ability to collaborate
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in
a related field
  • First AID and CPR
Camp Counselor Job Responsibilities:
Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the classroom assistant.
  • Present a positive role model for students.
  • Maintain a well-organized, neat, and safe environment for all students, families, staff, and
guests.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work with others in the classroom. Exhibit strong organizational

habits.
Commit to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging initiatives

  • Be aware of the individual needs and interests of the students and ensure there are relevant
resources for their interests.
  • Maintain safety and appearance of the classroom.
  • Leads, and implements camp programs for children.
  • Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences
for camp participants.
  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and
general well-being.
  • Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
  • Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, and daily
attendance.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures their meals/snacks
are distributed.
  • Mediates any campers’ disputes.
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program,
including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.
  • Maintains constant surveillance of the playground and water areas.
