Greater Providence Young Men's Christian Association is Hiring a Behavior Management Specialist Near Wakefield, RI

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Camp: 

  • Provide training to staff on basic behavior management strategies
  • Assist the Camp Director in reviewing and creating policies and procedures regarding behavior management. 
  • Review camper files and identify campers who will need extra support
  • Call families to make an action plan regarding camper behavior management and needs

During Camp: 

  • Provide daily check-in with pre-identified campers.
  • Remain on-call at all times to assist staff with any behavior management problems that arise
  • Document all interactions with campers. 
  • Document all concerns presented by staff regarding campers
  • Call home to families regarding serious behavior concerns,
  • Call home to families to provide positive updates on pre-identified campers
  • Organize and participate in emergency drills and crisis procedures.
  • On check-in day interact with parents and document any concerns or needs for additional support while at camp. 
  • Attend daily Division Leader Meetings to provide support to leadership staff 
  • Attend weekly program head meetings to provide support to program staff
  • The Behavior Support Specialist will be the first contacted at night regarding any camper concerns
  • The Behavior Support Specialist will follow all child abuse prevention best practices. Including but not limited to: never being alone with a child. 
  • Treat children with dignity and respect. Recognize their individuality and diversity.
  • Demonstrate and teach the Character Development values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty. Set a good example for staff and campers.
  • Work in harmony and cooperation with the staff, volunteers, and campers to develop team spirit and a family atmosphere.
  • Other duties as assigned
